The mid-February rains brought Sonoma Creek up several feet. The creek’s two channels became one as runoff from the hills in Warm Springs and Sugarloaf Mountain combined in Glen Ellen. The picture above shows the forces of water at Larson Park in mid-month. At the same time in 2018 the year’s rainfall had been a mere 9.41”. Variances at different places in the Valley and County. This year rain levels have varied at different reporting stations in Sonoma Valley. Glen Ellen has greater rainfall than Boyes Springs and the City of Sonoma reports slightly more than Boyes as well.

There are a number of plans and projects coming to the Springs this year that were started in months or years past. Springs Specific Plan – The “Plan” is a program to promote beautification and unity among various elements along the Springs corridor. The ideas that went into the plan were developed in part by residents who made suggestions in five separate workshops. In several respects the ideas discussed below are either part of, or relate to, the goals of the “Plan.” Steps have been taken to make the plan ideas a reality for the Springs.

Alejandra Cervantes, community organizer, heads up the Community Garden at Larson Park, a Sonoma County Regional Park. Ms. Cervantes is involved in numerous community improvement programs in the Springs. Demolition, Parking, Development, and Neighborhood Watch Are Topics Presented At Springs Community Alliance Meeting.

These wonderful people gathered in Larson Park on the shores of Sonoma Creek to gather bottles, trash, and other debris on Coastal Clean Up Day (9/15/18). Families and Mission Inn workers spoke with pride about improving the environment on Sonoma’s central water way. County proposes changes to housing density rules. In late August a staff report from the County Planning Commission was revealed that proposes several changes affecting the Springs.
