These wonderful people gathered in Larson Park on the shores of Sonoma Creek to gather bottles, trash, and other debris on Coastal Clean Up Day (9/15/18). Families and Mission Inn workers spoke with pride about improving the environment on Sonoma’s central water way. County proposes changes to housing density rules. In late August a staff report from the County Planning Commission was revealed that proposes several changes affecting the Springs.

Hot dawg! The ambitious proposal to spruce up the Springs and give it pizazz is moving forward.Evidence of the community’s interest can be seen by active citizen attendance at the Springs Community Alliance meeting in mid-August. Chair Rich Lee introduced County Representative Yolanda Solano who moderated the meeting.

On July 10 County Planning conducted an Environmental Review Report (EIR) as Step 6 in the development of the Springs Specific Plan. Once the final EIR and financing is set, the County will move toward final plan adoption. “Art Escapes,” founded by Springs residents Thena Trygstad and Kate Ortolano provides art education and creative experiences to young people throughout the Sonoma Valley. Art Escapes is located at 17474 Highway 12. Children of varying ages are taught how to sketch, paint, and create in various media.

Pot holes and rough pavement are standard fare for drivers in El Verano, Boyes Springs, Fetters, and Agua Caliente. “Pull down your goggles, veer right then left, scoot by the first pot hole, straddle the next one, watch for the car on the corner, dodge the woman and her baby carriage, brake around the next series of bumps, and careful for the fellow leaving El Gran Taco.” This is the daily routine traveling Calle del Monte to Highway 12.
