On January 7, 2020 the City Council approved the creation of a Climate Action Sub-Committee. The new Climate Action Sub-Committee will include a cross-section of community members representing all sectors, working together to make recommendations to the Council on specific future actions to address the climate crisis. This initial group will write a work plan for a later, more formal “standing” Sub-Committee.

The City of Sebastopol has some challenges, but, like building a house, we are working on them with measured, steady progress. Funds are being accumulated from a variety of sources to continue maintaining and improving our roads. A number of housing projects are being discussed, some with delight and others with dread, but that’s why the public process is the way it is; everyone gets a chance to speak. The aging underground water utilities serving all residences and businesses in the City require maintenance and upgrades, and the City has developed a long-range plan to provide for adequate funding of these vital systems.

Last December as I started my term of Mayor, little did I know what was involved in the role. Thankfully Mary Gourley, our City Clerk, provided me with excellent crib notes that got me off to a great start. Beyond the ceremonial aspects of being Mayor, I had no idea all the events that would be thrown at our community this year. Nevertheless, Sebastopol rose to the occasion, accomplished so much, and this year has flown by...

An overwhelming majority of residents from Fircrest Mobile Home Park in Sebastopol have signed a petition asking the City of Sebastopol to help them stand up to PG&E to avoid the installation of “smart meters” in their senior community. PG&E has been working in the mobile home park since July replacing utility lines in order to switch all homes from sub-metered analogs to smart meters.

PARKING in the downtown district on city streets will be UNLIMITED and FREE.
