I encourage you all to patronize local businesses as much as possible. Many took a big hit during the flooding and we need these folks to succeed! Both the Cazadero and Duncans Mills General Stores offer daily groceries, tasty sandwiches and many locally produced food, wine and body-care items. Cape Fear Cafe' is open and serves delicious California-style New Orleans food. The Gold Coast Bakery and Coffee Roastery has a wonderful back deck where you may sit in the sun and enjoy delicious baked goodies, tacos and roasted on site coffee. The newly-renamed Duncans Mills Tea Shop features a terrific assortment of teas and related gift items. Cazadero Supply offers its 1st Saturday 15% Discount Day to help you with household, gardening and vehicular projects. Raymond's Bakery has Friday Night Pizza and Music to get you out of the house.

The County of Sonoma will host a community meeting on Sunday, March 3, to discuss the impacts of recent storms and share information on how to get started with the recovery process. The meeting will be 2 to 4 p.m. at El Molino High School, 7050 Covey Road, Forestville.

Local musicians often play and I love to bask in the sunlight when possible. It's a big deal on The River. The Lower Russian River area has wanted a voice of influence at the Board of Supervisors and now, thanks to Fifth District Supervisor Lynd Hopkins, the first public meeting will be held February 25 at Guerneville Elementary School. The public is welcome and encouraged to be involved in making decisions about the present and future of the Lower River Communities which extend from Forestville to Cazadero/Duncans Mills.

The regular meetings of the Cazadero Community Club resume on Tuesday, March 5th-7 p.m. at Firehall #1. Please join your neighbors in planning events which benefit the entire community! The Montgomery Elementary School starts off February celebrating the 100th day of school on February 6th. School will be closed for both Lincoln's Birthday on 2/12 and President's Day on 2/18. The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition has announced its 2019 Gold Medal winners. Cazadero Winery, one of Sonoma County's premiere mom-pop winerys, wins more Gold with Bei Ranch grapes from the vineyard originally planted by John Bei in the early 1990's.

The Montgomery Elementary School students will be getting back in the swing of their daily routines as they return to school from their two-week Winter break on Monday, January 7th.

Remember that by choice, we live in a very wooded area. The Pole Mountain Fire Lookout has been reopened and is the only lookout serving Sonoma County. Its primary purpose is the early detection of fires, so they can be stopped when small.
