From August 2019 SMP Newsletter
First, we dreamed a wonderful book about Sonoma Mountain. Then we created three very successful book launch parties— attended by 550 people like you—to raise awareness of the mountain in our backyard.
Now we are stepping back to vision and dream what's next for us as an organization speaking for the Mountain. We'd love your input about what's important and of interest to you. The Google poll takes about two minutes. Take survey here. Thanks for your input!

Sugar Shuttle, North Slope to Jack London
Plan your long hike from North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve to Jack London with the help of SEC's Sugar Shuttle, running on Sept.21-22 and Nov. 9-10.
North Sonoma Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve offers 820 acres of redwoods, hillsides, the famous Umbrella Tree, and connecting trails to Jack London State Historic Park. Check it out!
We're looking for hikers who want to guide small groups on the SDC wildlands, especially to the Grandmother Redwood. If you're interested in being a volunteer guide, contact us. We'll focus on fall-winter-spring hikes.
To report any problems you see at SDC, call the police dispatch at 565-2121
SDC: 725 new acres of SDC open space will become part of JLSHP and Regional Parks. Keep up with what's happening here.
Lafferty Ranch: the Petaluma City Council has allocated $50K for planning—270 more acres of open space on the west side. Thank you all!
Where the World Begins: Anytime you need a copy, order online and have it mailed to anyone in the US.
"Where the World Begins tunes up our senses and summons us to slow down, listen, exhale and then discover for ourselves that rare vista, ancient oak or redwood along one of the many remote mountain trails and streams while hiking, birding or biking. The book conveys an unparalleled tapestry of human and nature in our majestic rural retreat."
