Sonoma County restaurants open doors with Dining Out for Life

On Thursday, Dec. 2, Food For Thought hosts Sonoma Countyā€™s 20th annual Dining Out For Life event. This year 50 local restaurants and cafes will participate, donating from 25 to 100% of the dayā€™s sales to benefit Food For Thought, a nonprofit organization that provides healing food and nutrition services to people living with HIV and other serious medical conditions in Sonoma County.

ā€œThe Dining Out For Life event is our biggest and most delicious fundraiser of the year,ā€ said Ron Karp, executive director of Food For Thought. ā€œThe 20th anniversary of the event holds special significance ā€“ falling just a day after AIDS World Day. Sonoma County restaurants have long supported people living with HIV and despite the hurdles that the restaurant industry has faced in the last couple of years, there are 50 restaurants that are partnering with us in 2021. We are very grateful for all our current and past supporting restaurants and event sponsors. The proceeds from Dining Out For Life ensure that we can continue to provide life-sustaining services to people living with serious medical conditions who are also at risk of malnutrition.ā€

About Food For Thought

Food For Thought is a nonprofit organization that provides healing nutrition to more than 6,500 Sonoma County residents living with a range of serious illnesses including HIV and COVID-19, who are at risk of malnutrition. Comprehensive services include healthy groceries (enough for up to 21 meals per week), prepared meals, vitamins, supplements and nutrition counseling. FFT believes that food is medicine: the services increase the health of clients, reduce food insecurity, decrease costs to the health care system and improve the lives of thousands of individuals in need. In addition to FFTā€™s direct service work, the agency leverages its impact through collaborative partnerships, research and policy advocacy. Food For Thought is a member of the California Food Is Medicine Coalition (CalFIMC), an association of community-based nonprofit organizations that provide healthy meals and support to individuals facing serious illnesses, including many clients who do not qualify for other free and low-cost meal services.

Dining Out For Life is an annual dining fundraising event raising money for community-based organizations serving people living with HIV. It is an international event held in cities throughout the U.S. and in Canada.
