PGE Turns Power back on in Stages across Sonoma County

Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) has notified the County of Sonoma that it has begun to conduct equipment inspections to restore power to the 200,000 residents in Sonoma County affected by the Power Shutoff.

PG&E has said they expect to make progress today in restoring power to some areas in the County. Other portions of the county will remain without power until PG&E has inspected the electrical infrastructure and determined that they can safely restore service.

The following schools plan to be closed Friday, Oct. 11 as of 5:00pm on Wednesday:

County officials have set up six Alternate Emergency Reporting Stations where residents in affected areas may go to report emergencies if they are unable to use their home phones to call 9-1-1.

Beginning today, Thursday, October 10, affected residents can request emergency services at the Starcross Monastic Community Center in Annapolis, Geyserville Fire Stations 1 and 2, the Knights Valley Volunteer Fire Station, the Bennett Valley Fire District Station, and the Schell-Vista Fire Station in Sonoma.

In addition, there are emergency landline call boxes functioning 24 hours outside of six fire stations in the affected areas that residents may use to report emergencies(see complete list below).

At the six designated Alternate Emergency Reporting Stations, residents will be connected to a staffed radio operator who will connect them to emergency services to report the incident. If cellular service is restored while traveling to an Alternate Emergency Reporting Station, emergency officials recommend that residents pull over safely to the side of the road and dial 9-1-1, which will offer a faster response to the emergency. After making the call, residents are encouraged to continue to the Alternate Emergency Reporting Station to follow-up on the emergency request in case the call to 9-1-1 was interrupted.

As of 2 p.m. Thursday, October 10, improving weather conditions in some parts of the areas affected PSPS have allowed for an “all clear” to be issued for safety inspections, repair and restoration efforts to begin in the following areas: Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa, Merced, Monterey, San Joaquin, Santa Clara, Stanislaus, Tuolumne and in portions of El Dorado, Placer, San Mateo, Santa Cruz..

As of 3 p.m. Thursday, October 10,the following additional counties were added to the “all clear” list for inspection, repair and restoration to begin: Alameda, Colusa, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, Placer, San Benito, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Solano, Sonoma, Tehama, Trinity, Yolo, and in portions of Yuba.

Dangerous weather conditions are expected to continue in some parts of the Sierra Foothills and Bay Area until midday Thursday. Similar conditions in Kern County are beginning late morning Thursday and lasting through midday Friday.
