Freeze warning in effect for Santa Rosa, Sonoma and Petaluma

The National Weather Service has issued freeze warnings beginning the evening of Thursday, Jan. 19 through Friday morning, Jan. 20 and again on Friday evening through Saturday morning, Jan. 21. Sub-freeze temperatures are expected across the interior portions of the Bay Area and Central Coast, including Cloverdale, Santa Rosa, Petaluma and Sonoma.

Frost and freeze conditions will impact unsheltered and sheltered populations, kill crops and sensitive vegetation, impact outdoor pets and livestock and possible damage unprotected outdoor plumbing, warned the National Weather Service.

Protect yourself

  • Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold by covering them with tarps or sheets.
  • To prevent freezing or possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, wrap them in sheets, drain them or allow them to drip slowly.
  • In-ground sprinkler systems should be drained and covered from above.
