Embrace the Moment

When humanity touches you and reminds you that ‘life and people are good’, one must embrace the moment. So that is what I did when I read what Henrik Liisberg, local guest artist at LyndonDesign Gallery, did for our health community. Many many people deserve to be commended, but this arrived in my inbox and touched my heart. Henrik had all the proceeds from the sale of this painting, Corona Cure, be donated to RCMS, our local health center. A mystery donor made an offer to Maynard and Lu Lyndon: If the painting sold for $2,000 and the buyer agreed to give the painting to RCMS, the sale amount would be matched, so RCMS would receive $4,000 and the painting. A couple came to the gallery, heard the offer and left. They returned to purchase the painting and donated it to RCMS. The mystery donor matched the sale price and RCMS received $4,000 and the painting. Henrik, you are a community hero. $4,000 goes a long way to support increasing needs. A million thanks to him, to the LyndonDesign Gallery, to the mystery donor, and to the couple who bought the painting.

Knowing Henrik for close to twenty years has brought many smiles and stories. He is kind and spirited. Henrik grew up in Denmark amongst painters. After his graduation in 1974 from Denmark Design School he moved to New York and soon after San Francisco. He is well known for his many award winning furniture and custom chair designs. In 1992 he and Hanne Liisberg moved to Sea Ranch/Gualala and currently have a home in Tiburon too. Henrik always wanted to create and become the artist that he now is. My favorite saying coming from him “I paint what I saw, not what I see” to which he says is the “privilege of being a senior”. We are all better in our world because of people like you dear Henrik. For more information about Henrik, stories, and to see his many paintings visit his website at http://liisbergdesign.com/Artwork/The_artist.htm

August for many of us on the northern coastal Sonoma/southern Mendocino Coast is the Art in the Redwoods hosted by Gualala Art Center. This year is no exception and will be hosted online. Everyone say – “Oh great, I’ll be there”! All the fun takes place from Thursday August 13 to Sunday August 30th. Please check the website often for updates http://gualalaarts.org/2020/03/art-in-the-redwoods/. GAC has many events, classes, and art shows taking place in the next couple months but again please check the website often. http://gualalaarts.org/ . Everything changes day to day with everything shared with you. Point Arena Lighthouse had an opening date of July 17 at 10 a.m to 3:30 for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday but please check for updates. The Light Station Store, lodging and our new Outdoor Museum are open as I write this. Please note that the iconic 115’ tall Lighthouse Tower – tallest on the Pacific coast – will sadly have to remain closed.

Many opportunities for shows, operas, and special musical performances are being offered at Point Arena Theater. Thank you for all this effort to support the community’s education and entertainment. Visit them at https://www.arenatheater.org/. Timber Cove Resort and the Coast Kitchen are open. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner dining is patio only, take away, or in room. They have gone above and beyond guidelines to make sure all guests are completely safe. Visit them at their web at https://www.timbercoveresort.com/. I am happy to highlight the many restaurants and hotels on our coast. Please contact me. Fort Ross State Park grounds are open for walking around. There are many guidelines in place so please review them before arriving https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=449. Same with Salt Point – trails are open but not for large groups https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=453. This is true for all our parks, trails, and places we love to hike. And last – we have the Fort Ross Store offering the Community Folk Music Revival on the patio every Saturday night from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. If you need to ‘get out of the house’ this is a bit of local fun with local musicians. Please contact Jeremy Boor at jerm@boordom.net to play.

And last I would like to offer to the husband Gregory, family, and Jenner Community condolences on the passing of Gypsy Keim. Michelle Irwin with The Board of Directors for the Jenner Community, stated ‘we will miss her kind, creative, and delightful ways, her always can-do attitude and the energy, interest, and caring she brought to the community, and her flipping many pancakes”.

I saw this on the Point Arena Lighthouse page, from dear Mark Hancock…”Please cooperate with all County, State and Federal orders during this unprecedented crisis, wear facial coverings, be safe, use common sense…..keep the 6′ social distance and be good to each other. Most of all, bring that positive coastal attitude and sense of humor….!

Many blessings to each of you!
