Bodega Bay CERT Update April/May 2020

Please join us on Monday, May 11, 2020 at 6:00 pm to discuss “Preparing for a Disaster during the Pandemic”. Topics will include – How do we respond should a fire, earthquake or other disaster occur during the Pandemic? What are the differences in how we respond? What stays the same? How do we activate CERT in times such as these? What role can you play? How does Bodega Bay Fire respond differently? Same? What do we do, where do we go in times of emergency in the Pandemic and a disaster? The meeting will provide key information for Bodega Bay in understanding the answers to these questions. WONDERING WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR SPARE TIME?

You could take the online Basic CERT Course available through FEMA online. Takes approximately 6 hours with an online test at the end to receive your certificate. It works in conjunction with the training provided by your Bodega Bay CERT meetings and drills.

The course will provide education about disaster preparedness, trains and organizes teams of volunteers that can support their communities during disasters. This program offers training in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, and disaster medical operations. With proper CERT training, you can help protect your family, neighbors, and co-workers if a disaster occurs.

Your Neighborhood Bodega Bay CERT Disaster Shed has it! Do you know where it is? BB CERT has enabled the neighbors around each of the sheds to manage the maintenance, supplies and localized Disaster Drill Training. These sheds are in several key locations around North & South Harbour as well as in the other hamlets in Bodega Bay. Let us know if you are interested in learning more!

After spending most of her career relocating corporate employees around the world, she began two successful family businesses in the coastal town of Bodega Bay, California with her daughter Alicia and her husband Paul. Patty has been coming to Bodega Bay her entire life and moved to the coastal town 12 years ago.

Patty is Vice President of Waves of Compassion Foundation, offering the first food pantry for the coastal community; Director for Bodega Bay CERT, helping Bodega Bay be prepared for a local disaster & Director for Bodega Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, assisting local businesses manage the unique coastal business environment. She began the Bodega Bay Collaborative, a group dedicated to providing information to the residents of Bodega Bay on the opportunities and challenges in their beloved village. Patty currently is serving as an appointee of Supervisor Hopkins on the Sonoma County Tourism Board of Directors. She was recognized by the Sonoma County Tourism Board with the Hospitality of the Year 2018 award for her leadership role during the 2017 Firestorm, as well as by Congressman Mike Thompson and Supervisor, Susan Gorin. She was also the recipient of the 2020 Community Member of the year award from Bodega Bay Fire Protection District. Patty was selected for the North Bay Spirit Award from the Press Democrat.

Patty enjoys hiking the Sonoma Coast, many times leading the hike offering bits of history with the goal that others will love & respect the coast as much as she does.
