Alliance for a Just Recovery to Host Discussion Forum

Over a year after the October 2017 fires tore through the North Bay, a coalition of local labor, environmental, housing and faith groups will host an event Monday to address the ongoing rebuilding process in Santa Rosa and Sonoma County.

At the event, titled "A Just, Equitable, and Sustainable Recovery for Sonoma County," members of the Alliance for a Just Recovery will release a report on the working conditions in the county and discuss legislative priorities moving forward.

Presenters will include representatives from some of the Alliance's member organizations.

Alliance Pushes for a "Common Agenda"

The meeting is the Alliance's latest effort to create a unified political agenda around the recovery among activists working on inter-related issues. In a report released in July, the Alliance called on local lawmakers to pass a series of measures intended to improve the living conditions of low and middle-income families in Sonoma County.

The "Common Agenda for a Just, Equitable and Sustainable Recovery" recommends new policies for labor standards, affordable housing, the environment and other topics.

Recommendations in the agenda include immediately raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour, concentrating new housing construction along transit corridors and extending the state's emergency 10 percent rent cap beyond its current Dec. 4 expiration date.

Topics to be considered at Monday's event include:

The event will be held on Monday, Nov. 19 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm at Christ Church United Methodist, 1717 Yulupa Ave, Santa Rosa. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served.
