Dirt to Dispensary Workshop Series

The Sonoma County Cannabis Program is hosting an eight-part workshop series to discuss all aspects of the Program, including permitting, zoning, compliance, standards, inspections, enforcement, business planning, taxation and more. Those interested in starting a cannabis business, permitting an existing operation, or getting more detail about what is required of cannabis businesses are encouraged to attend.

Prior to each of these workshops, relevant permit application forms and informational handouts will be made available on ourwebsite. Following the workshop series, the permitting agencies will be hosting hands-on permitting workshops to assist operators with their applications.

Meeting Documentation:

The May 3rd opening workshop for all operators included an overview of the Program, including the: • Cannabis Land Use Ordinance, • Cannabis Health Ordinance, and • Cannabis Business Tax Ordinance.

County staff will go over requirements that apply to all cannabis businesses such as zoning, separation criteria, and operator criteria, as well walk attendees through the permit process.

The workshop will also include an introduction to business planning basics.

The next workshop in the "Dirt to Dispensary" series:

Cultivation Permits 101 - will be on Wednesday, May 10th from 3-5 pm at the Glaser Center, 547 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa.

May 17, 2017 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM Ordinance Standards andBMP Compliance for Cultivation

This cannabis workshop is for cultivators and focuses on complying with operating standards and best management practices (BMP), waste management, pesticide use, nutrient management, and erosion and sediment control.

May 24, 2017from3:00–5:00 PM Water and Wastewater

This cannabis workshop is primarily for cultivators and will discuss waste discharge requirements, runoff and storm water control, water supply and management, groundwater monitoring and well metering, and North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board’s waste discharge permit.

May 31, 2017from3:00–5:00 PM Cultivation Infrastructure

This cannabis workshop is geared toward cultivators, nurseries, any operators doing new construction, and operators on parcels that are not hooked up to municipal services. Staff will discuss main, support, and ancillary structure uses and permitting, security and seclusion (screening, fending and access), grading, and well and septic requirements and permitting.

June 7, 2017from3:00–5:00 PM Manufacturing

This cannabis workshop is for manufacturers and will include a discussion of zoning and permitting, food safety, industrial area requirements, volatile vs. non-volatile extraction methodologies under the Ordinances, Haz-Mat (hazardous materials), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) identification numbers, emergency services, and inspections.

June 14, 2017from3:00–5:00 PM Dispensaries

This cannabis workshop is for current and prospective dispensary operators and will including a discussion of zoning and permitting, food safety, and inspections.

June 21, 2017 at3:00 PM Taxation

This cannabis workshop is for all operator types and will focus on cannabis business tax rates, how and when to file tax forms, crop loss considerations, and business property tax.
