Wheel of Light Astrology by Rio Olesky — March 2020
There will be two significant planetary influences this month. One is the exact conjunction between Mars, Jupiter and Pluto. The other is Saturn transiting into Aquarius. Saturn enters Aquarius on March 21st and will remain there until July 1 when it retrogrades back into Capricorn. Since Saturn rules both Capricorn and Aquarius (as co-ruler with Uranus), its influence will remain strong. One difference between the signs is the Capricorn, an earth sign, focuses on practical activities that can enhance our productivity and ultimately our sense of stability and control. Aquarius is an air sign. As such it focuses on ideas and people. There are two primary ways that we can utilize Saturn’s energy when in Aquarius. If we are centered, we can use this transit to manifest new values and institute new habits accordingly. We can be more accepting and inclusive of others and seek to work with them collectively to improve the quality of our collective experience. The other option is to limit others’ freedom and expect them to conform to our way of relating to life. This is what happens if we are off center. This entry of Saturn into Aquarius is a precursor of what will happen in December when Saturn and Jupiter are in an exact conjunction at zero degrees of Aquarius. This is one of the most profound transits of 2020 and will addressed more extensively later in the year.
The alignment of Mars, Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn brings another highlight of the Capricorn Stellium, which is by far the most important transit of this decade. Even though Saturn will temporarily leave Capricorn, it isn’t going far. The exact conjunction of Mars with Jupiter and Pluto provides energy, competitiveness and drive to further activate the essence of this combination of planets. Remember that the bottom line of this alignment is truth: seeking it, defining it and discovering how it can impact our lives.
Mars is said to be exalted in Capricorn. This means that the physicality and drive of Mars is going to be more competitive and ambitious than it usually is. Combined with Jupiter, this conjunction provides expansiveness of perspective and the confidence that we can achieve whatever our intentions are. Combined with Pluto, this conjunction can trigger an intense transformation of whatever we are seeking to change or produce at this time. One note of caution, however. Mars pertains to anger. When Mars is conjunct Pluto, anger can quickly morph into rage. Conjunct Jupiter, the planet of expansion, there can be profound potential for volatility and even violence. It’s important that we counter this tendency by looking deeply within ourselves. The seeds of rage may lie within as a result of something we are doing or some way we are doing it that needs to be altered. To lash out at others can provide a convenient way to overlook our own complicity in our frustration. When we blame external circumstances for our difficulties, we could create even more problems for ourselves as well as avoiding the potential for major growth and change that this transit can facilitate.
To take fullest advantage of this alignment, notice which house in your natal horoscope has the sign Capricorn on the cusp. That is the area where growth, accomplishment and transformation can take place in major ways this year.
Aries: This is a time to focus on career. Opportunities that have been available for a while could come to fruition. This is a time to be direct and self-affirming in order to take advantage of the situation.
Taurus: Things could slow down and mellow out for you this month as Venus enters Taurus on the 4th and remains there all month. Focus on relationship, artistic expression and your financial situation. Clarity about these areas now will make a big difference when Venus turns retrograde in May.
Gemini: Early month could bring focus on the social dynamics of your life. From mid-month on a variety of activities, from artistic expression to spiritual growth, could all be available as significant, fulfilling and growth-oriented activities to pursue.
Cancer: The full Moon in Virgo on the 9th can bring focus to your social life, especially romantic relationships. Growth can come from expressing your self, emphasizing your needs and feelings to your partner. This could lead to profound shifts in the relationship that will provide more trust and a deeper level of intimacy between you.
Leo: Early month can provide artistic inspiration, so take advantage of it from mid-month on. The Sun enters Aries on the 19th which can provide you with confidence, clarity and creativity. These creative impulses could provide inspiration to study anything from the arts to metaphysics.
