Union Teachers to Rally Monday NOV 18 in San Jose- Contract Stalemate on USD Spending Priorities
A huge show of educators will rally before a school board meeting Monday Nov 18 on Union Ave, San Jose, demanding that the Union School District (USD) settle contract negotiations that have dragged on for a year. Teachers are seeking an agreement that will invest in students and classrooms and help the district recruit and retain quality teachers.
Union teachers and the community have grown frustrated with USD management and the school board for their inability to make teachers a priority. Talks are at impasse over professional pay, prep time, class sizes and other resources students need to succeed.
“You can’t put students first when you continually put teachers last,” said Hudson. “While district revenues have increased year after year, our salaries have decreased in the percentage of the district’s total budget.”
