Transparency Matters is the theme of the new show at the Graton Gallery that opens on November 12th and goes through December 15th. It features watercolorist Sally Baker who is joined by glass artists Valerie Adams, Monica Boettcher, Mark Freed, Branka Harris, Salatino Gandolfo.
Sally's paintings use transparent watercolor to create luminous, saturated paintings that sparkle with intensity. Using layers of watercolor, called glazing, she is able to achievea richness that many find unexpected in watercolor paintings. http://www.sallybaker.com/
Her still lifes, composed of glass, flowers, persimmons, fabrics, and pottery capture specific moments in time that she feels she is “rescuing”. She endeavors to have the viewer observe the world through her eyes. Her hope is to engage these viewers, encourage them to slow down and take a visual journey with her.
A former high school art teacher, Sally's goal is to help others observe the beauty that surrounds us all daily, to look more carefully, and to see through the negativity in our society and confirm that “Transparency Matters.”
The show runs November 12th through December 15th
