Telecom Industry Plans
to Install 5G Cell Towers
In Our neighborhoods...!

May 5, 2019

My community work this past year is dedicated to two career firefighters: Charlie Rice, RIP March 29, 2018 and his widow, Shellie Rice, of Napa.  I was asked to help stop the invasion of 60+ Verizon 5G cell towers in the city of Napa, with one tower to be installed in front of the Rice’s home on Franklin Street. I soon discovered that the 5G roll over was also happening in the cities of Sonoma, Santa Rosa, Sebastopol & Petaluma. More recently, the telecom industry has headed for Marin County. They have already been installed in Sacramento.

My activist experience began at my family dinner table, where my career military father would ask – What have you done for the good of your country today? Yes, I consider myself a patriot, but I became a peaceful warrior, a writer/researcher and a community activist.  I will continue to fight the telecom industry’s attempts to destroy our health, homes and planet. After one year of studying EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies), researching the well documented health hazards, engaging in educating the public and city officials, I feel I understand this war. It is a David and Goliath struggle.

The damage 5G will do is much greater than the already polluting 4G.

What is a 5G close proximity microwave radiating small cell tower? The name stands for Fifth Generation, but it does not sequentially follow 4G in design or effect. The Telecom Industry wants us to think it does, to hypnotize us while they install the not-small-at-all cell towers in our neighborhoods every 2-10 homes. (They are small compared to a MACRO TOWER) Unlike its predecessors, 5G delivers a constantly pulsing 24/7 non-ionizing, microwave radiation. The damage it will do is much greater than the already polluting 4G, 3G, Hot Spots, and other sources of wireless EMFs. Why do they tell us we need 5G? It’s FASTER! That’s the main reason.  Faster than a speeding bullet? Yes. And the bullet will penetrate your body and slowly destroy it. Why do we need to stop them? Because it is not SAFE TECHNOLOGY.  Please go to the Environmental Health Trust’s website and read the peer reviewed science research.

Contrary to the Telecom Industry’s seductive ads and denials, cellular radiation causes cancer. They have duped the public for decades. Read the Nation magazine article that exposes their deception.

A recent long term, national study from the National Toxicology Program of the U.S. National Institutes of Health using the term ‘clear evidence’ on March 28, 2018, stated that cellular radiation causes the formation of glioma cells, the rootstock of glioblastoma, the deadly brain cancer. Here is the link: 1/index.cfm

What can we do? As this article is being submitted on April 15th, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has new stranglehold regulations that may go into effect today. If that happens, I recommend that you contact Michael Neuert, an electrical engineer, who helps people shield their homes and lives from radiation.  578 1645, in Santa Rosa.

If the new FCC regulations are delayed, modified, or rewritten - thanks to the lawsuits, national Bills, and community efforts, then I invite you to join me on Facebook at Sonoma Neighborhood Association for updates. The city of Sonoma has ten 5G cell tower applications that have already been submitted. Three have already had their first Planning Commission review. But they are not a done deal! We have delayed them for over a year, and we will continue to protest their installation in our neighborhoods or near schools.

The situation in each Northern California City is unique.  Petaluma and Sebastopol are fighting back hard. Santa Rosa is being bulldozed. There is a Sonoma County wide action happening now to implement an Urgent Ordinance. Check for updates on Facebook.  The City of Napa has already PERMITTED THREE cell sites. They are in trouble.

I would like to acknowledge and thank my key allies in the efforts in the city of Sonoma: Shelley Masters and Mark Marthaler. Also the creator of the website of,  where you can find individual pages for each city, documenting their progress. In Napa: Shellie Rice, Valerie Wolf, and Suzanne Baumann continue to fight alongside me. We will persevere!

Hello Lin Marie, I am part of a group in Sonoma County (still searching for name) which has been actively working to limit the expansion of expanded 4G and 5G cell towers. Our focus has been Sebastopol and today we met with Supervisor Hopkins and the PRMD Director Tennis Wick. They are committed thus far to revising their outdated 1996 Telecommunications Ordinance with a Ministerial one dealing with PROW, rather than a Discretionary Permit process which would allow public notice and public hearings, appeals to the Board, etc. But this is just the beginning of the struggle. The good news is that we’re planning a coordinated strategy to lobby all of the other supervisors; get a concise statement of our position; seek the support of other environmental groups in Sonoma County such as Sonoma Conservation Action (SCA); raise $$$$; write OpEd pieces in the local papers and printing flyers inserts in local newspapers in Sebastopol, Windsor and Healdburg. Perhaps we should join forces combines resources and strategy. I will send your article to the other members of our organization. Please contact me, Cordially, Paul-André Schabracq 707 823-2607

Paul-Andre~ I attended a townhall meeting in Forestville yesterday that included Supervisor Hopkins. I asked her about the 5G rollout during a question and answer period during the first hour of the meeting, and then spoke to her directly after the meeting, and she stated that at the Federal level, mandates were in place not to allow local communities to protest 5G installation due to health concerns (this would refer to the Wireless Communications Act of 1996 that prohibits local jurisdictions from considering perceived health effects when taking an action on a proposed facility). She said that no applications have been submitted for Forestville yet, but that if they were, the locals had no say in preventing installation, other than concerns about their aesthetics and placement. You wrote that Hopkins and PRMD Director Tennis Wick were "committed thus far to revising their outdated 1996 Telecommunications Ordinance with a Ministerial one dealing with PROW", but that's not what she was communicating to me. She seemed to be accepting of the 5G installations. You might want to give her a call and see what's up with that.

Lin Marie deVincent's piece on cell phone towers (Sonoma County Gazette, May 2019, p. 9) could only have been written by someone who is completely ignorant of the physics involved. The only significant radiation in a cell phone system is the radiation from the user's phone itself, as towers are much farther away -- and radiation intensity falls of as the square of the distance from the source. Human anatomy is not affected by cell phone radiation because of something called the skin effect: except for the outermost layer, skin is a fair conductor of electricity, so radio frequencies are either reflected or absorbed and do not reach the inner parts of the body. The "" web site is simply a collection of crackpots. The only legitimate study found in a Google search related to effects on animals of radiation at intensities hundreds of thousands of times higher than that of cellphone transmissions. An advantage of 5G technology is that, with towers much closer to users than those presently used, the radiation levels will be much lower: you don't need as much radiated power if your communications are over a shorter distance. -- Robert A. Saunders.

May 26, 2019 So, Robert Saunders says that Lin Marie deVincent's above article could only have been written by someone who is completely ‘ignorant’ of the physics involved. He then goes on to say that “Human anatomy is not affected by cell phone radiation”, and that “radio frequencies are either reflected or absorbed and do not reach the inner parts of the body”. He compounds his statements by stating that “The only legitimate study found in a Google search related to effects on animals of radiation at intensities hundreds of thousands of times higher than that of cellphone transmissions.” I guess he hasn’t heard of the international appeal by scientists all over the world to halt the rollout of 5G: From the site: “Despite widespread denial, the evidence that radio frequency (RF) radiation is harmful to life is already overwhelming. The accumulated clinical evidence of sick and injured human beings, experimental evidence of damage to DNA, cells and organ systems in a wide variety of plants and animals, and epidemiological evidence that the major diseases of modern civilization—cancer, heart disease and diabetes—are in large part caused by electromagnetic pollution, forms a literature base of well over 10,000 peer-reviewed studies.” Maybe Mr. Saunders isn’t too adept at using a search engine, since he only found one such study that he considered worthy. Regarding his contention that radio frequencies do not reach the inner part of the body: “The idea that we will tolerate tens to hundreds of times more radiation at millimetre wavelengths is based on faulty modelling of the human body as a shell filled with a homogeneous liquid.[77][78] The assumption that millimetre waves do not penetrate beyond the skin completely ignores nerves,[79] blood vessels[80][81] and other electrically conducting structures that can carry radiation-induced currents deep into the body.[82][83][84] Another, potentially more serious error is that phased arrays are not ordinary antennas. When an ordinary electromagnetic field enters the body, it causes charges to move and currents to flow. But when extremely short electromagnetic pulses enter the body, something else happens: the moving charges themselves become little antennas that reradiate the electromagnetic field and send it deeper into the body. These reradiated waves are called Brillouin precursors.[85] They become significant when either the power or the phase of the waves changes rapidly enough.[86] 5G will probably satisfy both criteria. “In addition, shallow penetration in itself poses a unique danger to eyes and to the largest organ of the body, the skin, as well as to very small creatures. Peer-reviewed studies have recently been published, predicting thermal skin burns[87] in humans from 5G radiation and resonant absorption by insects,[88] which absorb up to 100 times as much radiation at millimetre wavelengths as they do at wavelengths presently in use. A 1986 study by Om Gandhi warned that millimetre waves are strongly absorbed by the cornea of the eye, and that ordinary clothing, being of millimetre-size thickness, increases the absorption of energy by the skin by a resonance-type effect.[90] Russell (2018) reviews the known effects of millimetre waves on skin, eyes (including cataracts), heart rate, immune system and DNA.[91]”

(continued): I could copy and paste so much more about the health effects of 5G and other EMFs out of this one link alone, all of which is highly referenced, but all one needs do is click on it and read it for oneself. 5G has been around for a long time, and it’s been well-documented to cause cancer, cardiovascular disease, altered DNA, neurological damage, and on and on. I have well over 100 other links and articles on this topic, and have found through internet searches that the evidence against 5G is mind-boggling. Probably you’ll say that this is all ‘crackpot conspiracy theory’. But Mr. Saunders, ask yourself this. Why are governments worldwide prohibiting local authorities from enforcing environmental laws “in the interest of speedy and cost-effective deployment” of 5G? Public notice requirements and public hearings are being eliminated. Even if there were a hearing and 100 scientific experts were to testify against 5G, laws have been passed making it illegal for local authorities to take their testimony into consideration. US law, for example, prohibits local governments from regulating wireless technology “on the basis of the environmental effects of radio frequency radiation”, and courts have reversed regulatory decisions about cell tower placement simply because most of the public testimony was about health. Insurers will not provide coverage against EMF risks, and there is zero clarity as to what entity will bear legal responsibility for damage to life, limb and property arising from exposure to 5G, whether ground- or space-based. In fact, D5 Supervisor Lynda Hopkins, at the Forestville meeting last week, stated that at the Federal level, mandates were in place NOT TO ALLOW LOCAL COMMUNITIES TO PROTEST 5G INSTALLATION DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS. Read that again: not to allow local communities to protest 5G installation due to health concerns. If that doesn’t make your brain spin a few times, there is something wrong with you. We are only allowed to protest the installations due to ‘aesthetic’ concerns. If 5G is so safe, why have health concerns been regulated away as a means to stop this? For the companies behind 5G, it’s money, BIG money. Billions of dollars. For our own councilmembers, they’re selling us out for just a few bucks: “When the City Council approved changes to the city’s telecommunications policies in 2015 that allowed the project to go forward, the council and city staff were more focused on how it could impact city-owned property, namely light poles. “In fact, the presentation to the council has been criticized as misleading for focusing almost exclusively on tidy streetlight installations in downtown commercial districts when most equipment installed so far has been in residential neighborhoods on wooden PG&E power poles. “To date, the city has approved all 39 encroachment permits Verizon has requested. Twenty sites are under construction, and three are done and operational, McHenry said. “The city expects to make $350 per year per pole — $10,500 for Verizon’s poles and $70,000 altogether for all 200 that might eventually go in. Another company, Mobilitie, has plans for small cells on about 20 street poles.” Yup, $350 per year per pole. How ‘bout that? What all of our politicos don’t realize is that even though they often exempt themselves from the very laws they pass for us, they will not be able to exempt themselves from the laws of physics. They will be just as exposed to 5G as the rest of us.

A P.S. to Robert Saunders: I was just thinking about your comment that Lin Marie deVincent's piece on cell phone towers “could only have been written by someone who is completely ignorant of the physics involved”. I had also failed to address your following statement about the safety of 5G technology, which I would like to do now: “An advantage of 5G technology is that, with towers much closer to users than those presently used, the radiation levels will be much lower: you don't need as much radiated power if your communications are over a shorter distance.” Intuitively, that makes NO sense. That’s because in contrast, if you have ZERO 5G towers around you, you have no radiation coming from them. I realized, however, that this should be scientifically refuted, instead of being based on common sense alone. I am an engineer, just not an electrical engineer, but with my background, I have the capability of doing research on this topic and putting two and two together. Actually, it’s not that hard. Engineering degrees, in my experience, are often over-rated, and I say that based on nearly four decades of working with various engineers. Anyway, in doing research, I found the following info rather quickly, making my work too easy: ““It is estimated that they will need a mini cell tower every 2 to 8 houses. This will greatly increase our RF Radiation exposure. All cell towers emit Radio Frequency (RF) Radiation. This is what makes them dangerous. 5G can support up to a million devices per square kilometer, while 4G supports only up to 100,000 devices per square kilometer. With RF Radiation, how close the source is to our physical bodies is more important than the power level (or wattage) of the radiation. RF Radiation dissipates with distance. In other words, a low powered exposure right next to someone is more dangerous than a more powerful exposure a long ways away. Also the longer the exposure time is, the more dangerous it is. 5G will be the worst of both worlds. We will have more sources around us, and closer to us. And they will be more powerful and continuous emissions.” From: The Ugly Truth About 5G So your thinking is backwards. You say that the closer they are, the less the exposure. No, sir. You are both intuitively and scientifically incorrect. Ironically, I often find that those who call others ‘scientifically ignorant’ almost unilaterally are much more clueless about science (physics, in this case) than the individuals they insult. And this is the case here.

I was poisoned by radiation emitted from cell phone towers in 2006 and 2007. Due to this incident, I am now left extremely sensitive to anything wireless, including cell phones and routers. The symptoms are tinnitus, heart palpitations, vertigo, skin issues, night sweats, nausea, headaches, mood issues, depression, among others. This illness is called electromagnetic sensitivity (EHS) or microwave sickness. I was diagnosed in Germany, as the physicians here in the US are not trained in environmental illnesses. I was awarded disability income due to this EHS in 2012. Illness from wireless devices is very real. I believe that more money is not spent on research because 85% of those afflicted are women and men seem to hold the political and economic purse strings. There are many great sites online, as Lin Marie deVincent and Karin Seritis have mentioned.,,,,,,, you tube videos by Toril Jelter (pediatrician), to name a few. I have written a book, ALL EMF*d UP, that has my story, how to protect yourself, supplements, Information on Americans with Disability Act, How to make Faraday cages, and situational awareness. Don't let the RobertS's of the world tell you all is well, when there are thousands of scientific and medical peer reviewed studies showing otherwise. The telecom industry makes trillions and spends a good part on keeping the truth of health hazards hidden, pay people, (called shills,) to put down anyone who doesn't agree with them, and green palms of those in the FCC. Educate yourself.
