Sonoma County Wireless Emergency Alert Testing September 10 and 12

TODAY - Monday, September 10th at approximately 6:00 PM, theCounty of Sonoma Emergency Services will begin testing emergency public alerts. UsingSoCo Alert, Sonoma County residents should be getting test phone calls on home and cellular phones. If you receive a call tonight at approximately 6:00 PM, unless otherwise broadcasted, this will only be a test and will not ask you to do anything. Sign up at SoCoAlert.com or call 866-939-0911.

On Wednesday, September 12thfrom 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, the County of Sonoma in conjunction with the City of Santa Rosa, will be testing theFederal Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) TEST. This test will involve the communities ofHealdsburg, Guerneville, Roseland, Glen Ellen/Kenwood, and Penngrove. WEA is an emergency message sent through your mobile carrier, similar to Amber Alerts. No registration is required. Additionally, the County will conduct an Emergency Alert System test, which will interrupt local radio and television broadcasts.

These alerts will be forced to your cellular phones and you should get an alert unless you have turned off the service in your particular cellular phone device or don't have a compatible smart phone.

On this alert, we will be asking for feedback so we have a full understanding of the reach of the alerts.We encourage everyone to click on the provided link and help us with the information when you receive the alert. Again, this is only a test unless otherwise stated. The link will be provided at the time of the alert. You don't need to do anything now. The county will also be testing the broadcasters Emergency Alert system on September 12th between 10 AM- 12 PM. These will be emergency tests over certain local media broadcasts. Unless otherwise stated these are only tests. There will be a call-taking line open during the tests for any questions. That phone number is707-565-3856. It is not open at this time and will only be staffed during the tests. We appreciate your patience and partcipation. After the tests, Sonoma County Emergency Management will study any gaps in the existing systems and make improvements for a safer, more prepared County.
