The focus for Nightingale is handmade, organic breads. We make everything from scratch, with great care and dedication. Baking bread is a labor of love: sometimes meaning long hours, early mornings, heavy lifting, but it’s all worth it for that moment that we pull beautifully browned loaves from the wood-fired oven, and to hear the delighted reactions of our customers and friends. The bakery is must stop in Forestville, frequented by Sonoma County locals and visitors. We offer a variety of products daily, with one special loaf for every day of the week. We focus on seasonality, adding locally sourced ingredients to our products where we can. We also sell a small selection of local cheeses, olive oils, preserves and salamis.

The Occidental Community Council is an all-volunteer, nonprofit corporation that meets on the third Saturday of each month at the Occidental Community Center from 10:30 a.m. until noon, and all are welcome to attend. Each year during the second full weekend in December, the Council sponsors the Annual Holiday Crafts Faire. All proceeds from the Faire are put back into the community. The Holiday Crafts Faire highlights over 35 local and regional artists, and features our traditional bucket raffle, fabulous food and baked goods provided by students from Salmon Creek School.

The book shop carries vintage first editions and used books as well as many newly published versions of literary classics. The shop also offers journals and pens and stationery and very special gift items all carefully curated by me with so much love. It is only 275 square feet, so only 1 or 2 people can be in there at one time. There is a covered outside porch where items are also easily seen and the point of sale station is a moveable iPad with a Bluetooth card reader so lots of six foot space for safety.
