Rio Nido Magic by Elena Chronis - August 2019

Rio Nido Sign:

There has been some serious discussion of adding lights to our red Rio Nido sign. Discussions are currently underway. Clare Harris the past owner of Johnson's Beach is assisting the Friends of Rio Nido (FRN) with this project. Now THAT's exciting news!

Rio Nido Post Office:

Jumping through hoops and hurdles and not giving up. The Friends of Rio Nido have met with the U.S. Postal Service reps and agreed on restoring our post office. There will be some changes. We have garnered the support of the Regional Managers from San Francisco to Eureka. The District Manager is also in support as well as the USPS Marketing rep. More updates to come as we move closer to making this happen, so stay tuned and be patient, it’s all in the works...…a great big thanks to (FRN) for their persistence.

RN Fountain Refurbishment:

PG&E agreed to move the electrical poles around the fountain. Once this is completed, (FRN) will be able to start work on beautifying our historic fountain. With all the rules and regulations with any and all projects these days, it takes time. The good news is we are making strides on all of the above.

PG&E:

Many of you have been asking about what’s going on with PG&E. They are replacing the old hazardous poles throughout RN. They are doing upgrades in our Community to minimize fires from electrical poles. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact Linda Clifton, the PG&E Contact person at 707 577-7218.

Let's Give Thanks to the Pee Wee Golf Volunteers:

Our little Putt Putt course and clubhouse has undergone a complete transformation with a wonderful group of individuals who have gone the extra mile and transformed Pee Wee golf. What a dramatic change from the earlier years. The Clubhouse has been restored with pin ball machines, a foosball table, hoola hoops, an assortment of ice cream, sodas and candies and other games for the kids. A BIG shoutout goes to the following amazing local people and volunteers: Pam, Margaret, Domenic, Beverly & Doug, Steve & Patty, Marsee & Adam, Allyson, Lyra, Tiffany and the Leone Family, Gabe, Nate, Linda, Nadine, Debi and Ann. Teamwork makes the Dream work. You guys are beyond awesome!

Back to School:

It’s that time of year when August creeps up on us and its back to school once again. Lounging and watching television while sipping my sweet tea I was bombarded by "back to school" commercials on the tv. In my opinion, school should be back in session after the Labor Day holiday.

National Night Out:

The Friends of Rio Nido are hosting National Night Out. This will take place at the picnic tables adjacent to the Dog Park on Tuesday, August 6th from 4:30-6:00pm. This is a potluck so bring some delicious food and as always FRN provides the BBQ. Come meet our local Firefighters and Sheriffs. I'm looking forward to it. Always, always a FUN time. See you there!

RN Pet of the Month:

Mickey is the runt of the litter. He is a tiny little black fur ball. He is the namesake of a fine man who resided in Tahoe. Mickey is fast and furious. He is loyal to his big sister Clare (who by the way was last month’s pet of the month). Mickey is a curious little fella who is as fast as a lightning bolt.

He loves his human mommy Jody Mitchell and is the apple of her eyes.

Let's give Mickey a big RN welcome!
