Relay For Life of Northern Sonoma County - Fight for a World Without Cancer
Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back Together
On August 4th & 5th, survivors, caregivers, friends and family will join together for the Relay For Life of Northern Sonoma County event at Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa. Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser of the American Cancer Society. It is a team event where team members take turns walking around the track for 24 hours.
Because cancer never sleeps, neither do our participants.
This year’s event includes teams from Cloverdale, Healdsburg, Windsor and Santa Rosa, Rohnert Park and Sonoma.
Opening Ceremony begins August 4 at 10 a.m. We will celebrate survivors with an honorary breakfast at 9.
Mardie Donaldson, one of the co-chairs of the event and breast cancer survivior, expressed her feelings by saying “Relay For Life is a rewarding experience that is emotional, joyful and offers hope that one day a cure will be found for this terrible disease.”
The American Cancer Society is the leading cause fighting cancer on every front; standing shoulder to shoulder with cancer patients and those supporting them. Funds raised help the American Cancer Society attack cancer through education, groundbreaking research, critical patient care services, prevention initiatives and much more, each of them critical to achieving a world without cancer.
Local cancer survivor Lindsey Lane O'brien understands first-hand how vital these services are. The Relay for Life is a place where I am reminded that "Cancer do not define me, but joyfully, HOPE does!"
Founded by Dr. Gordy Klatt in Washington in 1985, the Relay For Life movement unites communities across the globe to celebrate people who have been touched by cancer, remember loved ones lost, and take action for lifesaving change. The event will include a silent auction, activities and entertainment.
