Occidental Center for the Arts Gallery’s current show, “The River” reminds me of Judy Collins new song,“River of Gold” and the journey of water.
Each artist’s inspiration has many forms, whether it’s visual or an internal expression that transforms into their creation.
The show is blended with realism and abstract works such as landscape paintings, photography, wood sculptures, quilts, and even a tree frog.
Marylu Downing, artist and Juror has an exquisite piece that reminds me of Chagall, with brilliant colorful figures that swim across the canvas. Artist Patrick Fanning’s watercolors shimmer in a river of light.
Opening night at the Gallery was not only well attended but included the talented artist and musician, River Mortenson who provided several piano melodies that reached my soul.
The Gallery committee consists of 5 -6 dedicated, local artists. Their vision is to offer the local artist community an opportunity to exhibit their work and what better place than Occidental?
You’ve got to see the show for yourself and take this incredible journey to “The River”.
