California Humanities has announced the recent round of Humanities For All Quick Grant awards. Northern California Public Media has been awarded $5000 for its project entitled the Wonderland Radio Hour.

The Humanities For All Quick Grant is a competitive grant program of California Humanities that supports locally-initiated public humanities projects that respond to the needs and interests of Californians, encourage greater public participation in humanities programming, particularly by new and/or underserved audiences, and promotes understanding and empathy among all our state’s peoples in order to cultivate a thriving democracy.

The live stage, in Monte Rio.The Wonderland Radio Hour (WHR) is a community inspired, community driven project that includes live theatrical performances, interactive community fairs, and radio broadcasts on local and National Public Radio outlets. The WRH mission is to build community involvement with the history, environment, art and culture of the Lower Russian River.  This HFA Quick Grant will take us to the termination of the Russian River, as it flows into the Pacific Ocean, at Jenner by the Sea, and will include the history and contemporary life of the local Kashia Band of Pomo Indians. The Sonoma Coast is the ancestral land of the Kashia who still maintain a small but vibrant community at Stewarts Point Rancheria.

“The Wonderland Radio Hour program is a shining example of the kinds of hyper local programming we are committed to providing here at Northern California Public Media. We are especially thankful to the California Humanities Council for their continued support of our mission to present the wide range of home-grown creativity, talent and public appreciation of the arts evident throughout our region,” noted Darren LaShelle, President & CEO of Northern California Public Media.
