KBBF RadioLand By Serena Makofsky - December 2018

On December 15th, from 3-6pm, come to Carpenters Union Hall, at the KBBF station property at 1700 Corby Avenue in SR, and enjoy our

The event honors the Mexican and Guatemalan “las posadas” custom of reenacting Mary and Joseph’s pilgrimage from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of refuge. In the Latin American tradition, participants join a processional, accompanied by music and song, and stop at designated houses to ask for entry. Once the hosts invite people inside, there is a celebration.

KBBF’s version of Las Posadas will feature music and songs as well as snacks and drinks. Santa Claus will make an appearance and there will be a chance for children to have photographs with him. Expect some special surprises for the children, too!

Interview with Becky Hobbs

Elaine B. Holtz of “Women’s Spaces” hosted an interview with Becky Hobbs, who spoke of her journey in music and to the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. She was inspired to produce a musical in honor of her great grandmother Nanyehi, Nancy Ward, of the Cherokee Nation. Nanyehi was a warrior woman who also championed peace between her and the European settlers in the 1700s.

Reflecting on this work, Holtz suggested, “Perhaps a listener can help bring the musical produced by Becky Hobbs and Nick Sweet--Nanyehi - the Story of Nancy Ward--to stage in the North Bay.”
