Ironman Triathlon 70.3 comes to Santa Rosa

More than 3,400 registered elite and age-group athletes from around the world representing 25 countries and 41 states. Athletes range in age from 18, Brian Ly from Chino Hills, California, to 79, Wayne Mehl from Sonoma, California. Occupations include Dentist, Engineer, Gardener, Teacher, Writer, Scientist and Pilot.

Athletes will compete in a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run through Sonoma’s beautiful wine country. A professional prize purse of $50,000 is up for grabs as well as 50 age-group qualifying slots to the2017 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, taking place in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA.

1.2-mile Swim: Lake Sonoma/Beginning and ending at the boat ramp on the north side of the Rockpile Road Bridge.

56-mile Bike: The scenic course begins at the Lake Sonoma Parking Lot and finishes at 3rd St & B Street. There is just over 2,000 feet of climbing through endless vineyards.

13.1-mile Run: The two-loop run will link up with the Santa Rosa Creek trail and each loop will return near the Courthouse Square for spectator viewing.

Finish Line: On the north side of the Courthouse Square
