Healing Anxiety in the Time of Covid

Yes, you’re probably anxious. The whole world is. It’s a normal reaction to the overwhelming amount of upheaval & threat to our lives: financial, political, health, social, psychological - it feels often as if the sky is definitely falling! The very fundaments of our lives feel under threat: but living in a anxious state means you probably feel out of imbalance, unhappy and insecure.

BUT… you don’t have to feel this way.

You have the power to develop a state of confidant, fearless and peaceful inner harmony while our planet & society heals!

How?

First: Recognize this is a time of huge planetary change that although painful, promises enormous improvement in every aspect of life.

Look forward to the Mother Earth healing: cleaner air & water, fish & whales recovering as our oceans heal; less pollution poisoning our lives and lands as oil refineries & drilling sites close, plus we fly & drive less. Plus:stronger political will to to stop climate change & heal our beautiful planet.

Look forward to positive social change as systemic racism is revealed, challenged, & responsible political actions taken throughout our country that can heal racial divide, plus bring health & prosperity to our black & brown brothers & sisters.

Look forward to stronger public health systems & inproved medical care through the increase of telemedicine.

Look forward to more social bonding, more open hearts & kindness, as we help each other throughout this difficult time.

Look forward to huge positive political change as the corruption & toxicity in our White House is revealed & challenged, soon to be removed altogether …in my opinion!

Second: Lessen Anxiety by Focus on Simple Pleasures! For me, this includes deadheading flowers in my patio garden each morning, enjoying the new blooms whose beauty & scent lifts my heart; frequent teleph0ne calls to beloved old friends I’d almost forgotten; playing with my handsome old cat, who still loves chasing dangling strings; cleaning my jewelry to see it sparkle; watching how new exercise habits strengthen & aliven my neglected body; discovering magical new paths to walk.

What are yours?

Third: Take the focus off your worries by GIVING. As President Kennedy said, “if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. “ Get involved politically: register voters, make calls to support elections, write letters to your representative/senators, & local leaders; join political organizations, if only virtually. Or donate to the Food Bank or animal rescue centers: perhaps help Seniors or disabled people. Giving is a sure fire way to warm your heart & reduce anxiety.

Develop a spiritual connection through meditation.

Fourth: Develop a spiritual connection. Whether it’s through walking in nature, meditation, prayer, or reading inspirational books, focusing on Divine Spirit to remember that even this difficult time is part of the Divine Plan will bring inner calm & a sense of spiritual connection.

Fifth: Minimize the Negative News, whatever the source! With so much bad & scary news right now, the less you learn about all the disasters happening in our economy, the pandemic, the race conflicts, the calmer you’ll be. Limit yourself to just enough to keep yourself & your loved ones safe & basically informed.

Sixth: Love Yourself - & watch anxiety flow away. This is a perfect time for deep introspection to weed out those unhealthy beliefs that sabotogue your life: like beliefs you’re not worthy of success or love; or that you don’t deserve forgiveness for past mistakes. Focus on the truth: you’re a fine person, worth of love, respect, & forgiveness - especially from yourself.
