Guerneville Groove by Beth Rudometkin - May 2018

If you live in the Russian River Area, you gotta’ love this time of year! Everything getsgroovin’! Let’s jump right into it! May begins with the Guerneville Regional Library Book and Bake Sale on Wed the 2nd, from 10-7, then Thurs–Sat from 10-5 with a $5 bag sale on Saturday. Also on the 2nd is the Russian River Chamber of Commerce Mixer which will be held at El Barrio, just in time for Cinco de Mayo!

But before we get to the 5th, remember that the Monte Rio Chamber of Commerce Fireworks Fundraiser Annual Golf Tournament will be Friday the 4th at Northwood Golf Course; if you aren’t playing on a team, come on out for some great BBQ after the tournament and your chance to win a great raffle prize!

If golf isn’t your “thing”, be sure to enjoy the First Friday ArtWalk throughout downtown Guerneville. Sat, May 5th, Cinco de Mayo, is the three-year Anniversary Celebration at the Guerneville Bank Club; can you believe it’s been 3 years since ourgroovy Bob Pullam opened this historical site? This celebration will include the Grand Opening of the Russian River Historical Society’s new exhibit: Bars, Restaurants & Taverns along the Russian River from the 1930’s – the groovy 1960’s. Out of the Blue band will be performing and there will be lots of food and drink!

On a serious note, Wed May 9th at6pm will be the Lower Russian River MAC informational meeting which is being held at Guerneville School. Please join Supervisor Lynda Hopkins to discuss boundaries for the Lower Russian River Municipal Advisory Council and participate in the discussion of how to choose board members. Super Heroes…did I just say, Super Heroes?! Oh yes, it’s time for Stumptown Days and this year’s parade will be held on Sat May 12th at 11 am on Main Street! Our very own Skip Cassady will be the Grand Marshal and will be leading the themed parade of Super-Heroes, so come out for a great time alongside of the smiles that will be pasted on the kids’ faces! Enjoy live music, food and fun afterwards in the Larks parking lot and be sure to visit your local Russian River Volunteer Firefighters booth to purchase some groovy bulldog shirts!

If that isn’t enough action for you the Russian River Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will be having Bingo that night at the Guerneville Vet’s Hall. School of Rock Bingo is a fundraiser for the Guerneville School FOGS/MUSIC program…..there will be a Rock-n-Roll costume contest along with a chance to win big money and fun prizes! Speaking of Rock-n-Roll, Sunday, May 13th is Mother’s Day. If you want to do something totally off the wall, “When was the last time you partied with Yo Mama?” The Stumptown Brewery presents the 9th Annual Allwayselvis Outta Rehab Mama’s Day Show from 1-5 pm. Celebrate your past, present and/or future mama by bringing her to party with The King, signing rock-n-roll mama songs, just for her! Best part, it’s free!

For the first time EVER, the Russian River Historical Society will be opening its Archives! Yes, on Sat May 26th from 3-6pm, you can be part of a 5-person tour, offered every 15 minutes, to view the historical materials. This Open House is located at 21482 Moscow Rd in Monte Rio and the cost is $20 for non-members and free to members. There will also be a silent auction and refreshments! Okay, a few more groovy news / event items: Water Aerobics is beginning in May at the Rio Nido pool! Yay!There will be morning and evening classes available; watch for the schedule that will be posted in the near future!The Russian River Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Center located on the Plaza, has tickets on sale for the Russian River Blues Festival and theJohnson’s Beach Centennial Celebration which will be held on June 9 & 10th. Lots of business news in the real estate community: Mallory Lambert has joined Millar & Co and Russian River Realty has a couple new agents, Steven Wamsley & John Keller…yes, John Keller, our class of ’79 at El Molino High School…which is having a reunion at Northwood Restaurant in August so be sure to get your tickets NOW at Eventbrite.com. for the Class of ’78 El Molino High School Reunion, with 1976-1980 invited to join in on the fun!
