Guerneville Groove by Beth Rudometkin — January 2020

Here’s to a New Year without any flooding, fires or any other catastrophe! One thing is certain, our community knows how to pull together and help one another when tragedy strikes ~ wouldn’t it be

January 2020 kicks off with New Year’s Eve parties and dinners at the majority of our local restaurants, so be sure to check out their individual websites for details, as many details were not available at the time of this column deadline. Boon Eat and Drink looks like it’s having afabulous event with a 5 course meal & wine pairing; seating is limited so be sure to make your reservations early! Main Street Bistro is featuring Miz Dee & Levi Lloyd Blues Band which will be sure to ring in the New Year with you kickin’ up your heels. The Appy Room and the R3 will be mixing up fun libations and yummy snacks through the wee hours, so be sure to support all of your local establishments and have a safe and happy time!

For those who are early birds like me, the Guerneville Regional Library is my go- to fun palace, although it will be closed on January 1st. Wednesday, January 22nd from 7-8pm the Gravenstein Mandolin Ensemble will be performing! This is the only mandolin ensemble in the North Bay consisting of mandolins, mandolas, mandocellos & guitar. Then on Saturday the 25th from 4-5:30 there is the Holiday Tamale Making Workshop which will be really cool…..or hot I guess, depending on how you create your tamale! I can’t wait to learn authentic techniques and recipes for making tamale’s! There are manyfree workshops and events held at our local library; check it out and show them your support!

Don’t forget that Guerneville School resumes on January 6th so keep an eye out for the kiddos making their way to their bus stops. The days are still dark with the rainy weather, so let’s keep our children safe out there! Also, remember school will be closed on January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King’s Day.

The Sister’s of Perpetual Indulgence will be having their Nacho Libre Bingo at the Guerneville Vets Hall on Saturday, January 11th which will benefit their operating fund and numerous programs they provide to our Community. If you have never been, this is a must! Be prepared for a night of laughter, (light) shock and the chance to win some money and FREE stuff! Go online to purchase your brown paper tickets today as they sell out quickly!

Happy New Year to all of yougroovy g~villians out there; let’s make this a year full of kindness and respect!
