Geyserville Grapevine by deTraci Regula - November 2018

As we move deeper into the darker months and pass the one-year anniversary of the devastating fires, I’m aware of how much has changed for most of us internally. The first day of rain didn’t bring me relief from anxiety over fires but instead reactivated my fears — at first glance, I thought the dark rain-filled clouds were billows of smoke from a new fire.

Foodie Moment of the Month

Eggs Benedict every day …. Every time I stop at the Geyserville Grille for breakfast, I am amazed at the fact that not only do they offer eggs Benedict every day, they also offer two variations in addition to the “classic” Canadian bacon preparation — there’s a veggie-heavy Benedict and an indulgent Crabcake Benedict. Other breakfast spots in the area and in Healdsburg generally only bring out the Benedict like jewels on a tray for the weekend breakfast diners. This recent morning was no exception. I’m confused as to why they don’t have a line out the door every day, but maybe my personal passion for eggs Benedict is unusual. Nah. That can’t be it! I do have one complaint - they cut off breakfast at 11 am. While I’m not ashamed to say that once or twice begging and pleading has extended that time by a few minutes, don’t count on it.

Annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Illuminated “Tractor” Parade

Geyserville retains its small-town spirit better than any other place I know, and that’s one of the reasons the annual Christmas Tree Lighting is such a pleasure. Sponsored by the Kiwanis, it takes place on November 24th from 5pm to 8pm. Want to be in the farm vehicle parade? You can still apply at the Geyserville Chamber of Commerce website at https://geyservillechamber.com/event/tree-lighting-tractor-parade-2017-downtown-geyserville/.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will appear at the Park and Ride lot starting at 5 pm followed by the tree lighting at 6pm with Christmas caroling before the parade itself starts at 6:30 pm. Once again, Geyserville Avenue (our section of the Redwood Highway) will be closed to other traffic for the duration of the parade. This has been the case for the past several years now - previously, vehicles driving along could find themselves temporarily part of the slow-moving parade, and for some reason, that didn’t work out so well.

Now the parade has the exclusive use it deserves. The fine chefs at the Geyserville Firehouse mentioned above will be providing cornbread and chili for this event for $5 per person or with an unwrapped new toy for the toy drive. The Oddfellows will be selling hot dogs, and all the shops and restaurants along Geyserville Avenue will be open and bustling. More information?
