Follow the parade to the Youth Park to find delicious BBQ, pie and ice cream, pasta dinners, Oysters, hamburgers, why am I just talking about food? You can also rock out to the bands, drink Premium beer or wine, win at Bingo, cruise the crafts, make a fool of yourself at the pie eating contest and watch the kids take in the rides. Too much fun! If you are an outsider reading this, you can come too! It’s all to support our community park serving youth for decades now. The BBQ goes from 11 am to 8 pm both days. Don’t let parking scare you. There’s plenty in the back of the park and helpers to direct you.

Speaking of parks,have you been to the downtown park lately?

If so you will have noticed the deep ruts from winter rains are gone! A 12 truck-load contribution from Canyon Rock, along with 8 combined volunteer hours of scraping and packing from DW Enterprises and voila, we have a decent parking lot again! No surprise the Wood and Trappe families come through to do good things for the community. Check out the video: 95436.org Heavy equipment at work. Impressive!

Their fix came just in time for the opening of our Farmer’s Market June 5th. It’s from 4-7 pm with more farmers signed up. We’ll have crafters and jewelry makers and food vendors too. Beer and wine sales help our local Chamber of Commerce, who are underwriting the Market and whose President, Wendy Flowers, is doing all the logistics. Opening night features Joy Ride, a lively local band that will get you up dancing! From now on, when it’s Tuesday, think Farmer’s Market from 4-7. We made an exception for 4th of July, which is on a Wednesday. On the 4th we’ll have music, dancing and a pig roast. So, pick up your veggies, a meal, pick up a new friend or hang out with the old ones.

Last reminder to apply to the Forestville Community Fund June 15. Go to 95436.org, click on Community Fund and you’ll find an application there. Curious what we’ve funded through the quarries help? You’ll find a synopsis of all the grants given since 2008 right there. Read the instructions please. No, the Fund won’t pay your property taxes.

LAST DAY at Forestville school is June 1st, just in time for the Youth Park BBQ, but Board members continue to meet in June on the 21st and 28th, 6 pm in the staff room. Yes, that’s twice in Jun e so when you run into a School Board Member thank them for their service. While you’re at it you can thank our Chamber Board Members, and FPA Board Members too. Those are the folks making things happen behind the scenes for our little town. Since we are unincorporated those volunteer jobs play a big role in keeping things running smoothly.

I read this month’s article and it gave me such a feeling of pride. They are doing a great job there. Test me and see if it works for you. That pride you’ll feel? That’s called Lion Pride.

Forestville Pizza has a new owner, have you noticed? It was purchased by Dillion Weatherly who I used to see hard at work making excellent pizzas. Now it’s his own shop and he’s still at it. Great veggie burgers too. I’m a big fan. I have one almost once a week with a side of salad those evenings when I don’t feel like lifting a finger. Sometimes it’s twice a week! OK sometimes it’s more. Friendly staff, fresh salads, good prices and the best veggie burger around.

And I finish on a highlight. Our ownAlain Serkissian fromMirabel Lodge just won the Marg Ling Leadership Award from Sonoma County’s Area Agency on Aging. It’s given for leadership, commitment and passion for senior issues. Alain more than deserves this prestigious acknowledgment. Congratulations Alain. Thank you for all you do for our seniors, including the beautiful gardens you’ve created at the Lodge for our seniors to enjoy.
