Film and Theater by Don Gibble - November 2018

November is the month dedicated to families. Planning Thanksgiving dinner and what to do the days following Thanksgiving. For those of you who don't go to the movies together, change your tradition and go! Trust me you'll feel a lot better. This month there are 10 movies you should see in the theater.

Also opening that day is “Ralph Breaks the Internet”which is the sequel to“Wreck-It Ralph”. Also appropriate for the whole family. The film I'm excited to see this Thanksgiving is “Immediate Family” starring Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne. Yes, it's also appropriate for the whole family.

Opening November 2nd is BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY starring RAMI MALEK who plays the iconic Freddie Mercury.

Also opening this weekend is “Nobody's Fool” starring Whoopi Goldberg and the hilarious Tiffany Haddish.

Opening November 9th is “The Grinch” starring Benedict Cumberbatch and the loveable Angela Lansbury. Definitely appropriate for the whole family.

Also opening November 9th is “A Private War” starring Rosamund Pike and Jamie Dornan. Look for Pike to earn another Oscar nomination.

“The Girl in the Spider's Web” starring Claire Foy also opens November 9th.

Johnny Depp fans will be happy that he's back in the movies. He stars in “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindel Wald with Johnny Depp & Eddie Redmayne. It opens November 16th. Also opening November 16th is “Widows starring Viola Davis and Michelle Rodriguez. “Widows” was a hit at the Mill Valley Film Festival last month.

Speaking of film festivals, one of my favorite film festivals is the Napa Valley Film Festival which starts on November 7th and ends November 11th. The film I'm excited about is “Green Book” starring Viggo Mortensen and recent Oscar winner Mahershala Ali. This is the opening night film showing at the Uptown Theatre in Napa. Tributes this year go to Geena Davis, Billy Bob Thornton, and Laurence Fishburne. Go to nvff.org for more information. My good friend Frank Grillo will be at the film festival this year with his new film, “Wheelman” showing at the Uptown Theatre in Napa at 830pm.Saturday, November 10th. Wendy Moniz also stars and “Guiding Light” fans will know that she worked with Grillo on that show over 20 years ago.

If you haven't had a chance to see “A Star is Born” yet you still have time to go! I guarantee you will love it and Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga are sure to receive Oscar nominations.

For those of you who haven't seen “Home Alone” in the theaters, you have your chance November 18th and 21st at the Airport theater. Call 707 571 1412 for more information.

There are a lot of cool events at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts this month. Starting with “Straight Up Paula!”. Paula Abdul fans will be in their glory! November 7th is the date!

My friend, Crystal Rangel, presents the 4th Annual Miss Latina Wine Country Grand Finale on November 9th at 6 pm. Go to MissLatinaWineCountry@weebly.com for more information. Also, at the Luther Burbank is “The Righteous Brothers” on November 18th. Finally, the return of Transcendence Broadway Holiday Spectacular. I saw it last year and it was amazing. It's showing November 30th through December 2nd.

A lot to see this month! Any questions feel free to email me at dongibblecast@hotmail.com. Happy Thanksgiving everybody.
