As I write this column, I am hoping that my friend Sam Rockwell wins the Academy Award for best-supporting actor for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”. He won the Golden Globe and the SAG award so he is a lock for this one. If you’re playing the Oscar pool game at your party other for sure winners are Allison Janney for best-supporting actress for “I, Tonya” and Frances McDormand for best actress for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” and Gary Oldman for best actor for “The Darkest Hour”. You still have time to see these movies at the Summerfield and Rialto. Speaking of the Rialto, they are hosting the Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival again this year March 22 through 25. The documentary to see this year is “Bombshell: the Hedy Lamarr Story”. It shows March 25 at 145pm at the Rialto. Call 707 829 4797 for more information.
The Sonoma International Film Festival runs from March 21 through 25. The closing night film is the film to see. “Chef” the remake of the 2014 American film starring Robert Downey Jr. is set in India with English subtitles. For more information go to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Movies you can see in the local theater this month are “Death Wish” opening March 2nd. Another remake starring Bruce Willis. The much anticipated “A Wrinkle in Time” opens March 9th. It stars Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon. Also opening March 9th is “The Hurricane Heist” starring Maggie Grace. Opening March 16th is “Tomb Raider”, another remake starring Alicia Vikander. Opening March 23rd is “Pacific Rim: Uprising” starring Scott Eastwood. Opening March 30 is “Ready Player One” directed by Steven Spielberg.
For my live theater fans the 6th Street Playhouse has two shows opening this month. The first is the hysterical “Noises Off”. It opens March 9 and closes March 31st. In their studio theater they open the classic “Death of a Salesman” starring Charles Siebert. It opens March 30 and closes April 22. Opening March 2nd is “The Realistic Joneses” directed by Argo Thompson at the Left Edge Theater. Closes March 25th. Call 707-546 3600 for information.
