Cozy this Christmas in Cazadero

Raindrops have begun to splatter on the stately redwoods outside of my cosy cyber-hut. Since my last column we have picked up a lot of precipitation-I have received close to 30" for the season so far, which is almost the entire 32" total from last year!

The approach of Thanksgiving, Chanukah, the winter Solstice, Christmas, Kwanza and the New Year is amazing. I believe that we are all in a time warp of sorts where 'regular' working hours, indoor entertainment and worship are only partially restored. The reopening of the libraries is beneficial for all and they will soon open all ranches on Sundays. No matter your age or interests, the Public Library offers incredible resources and opportunities. The Guerneville Regional Library is my 'local' and the helpful staff and spacious area beckons me quite often.

I want to thank all of the craftspeople and shoppers who made our recent Cazadero Holiday Crafts Fair a success. Next up is the Monte Rio Holiday Wonderland Crafts Fair, which runs Friday, Nov. 26 (11-5), Saturday, Nov. 27 (10-5) and Sunday, Nov. 28 (10-4) at the pleasant Monte Rio Community Center. An alluring variety of gifts for yourself and others, plus tasty homemade food prepared by Internationally known chef Gregorio will lure the discerning shopper. Free admission and plenty of parking. The Annual Occidental Community Crafts Fair, benefitting the Occidental Community Council, will be held on Saturday, Dec.11 (10-5) and Sunday, Dec. 12 (10-4) at the Occidental Community Center on Bohemian Hwy, near the Fire Station. A myriad of talented crafters, home baked goodies and lunch items, plus the legendary 'Bucket raffle) with many items donated by vendors and local businesses. Santa will surely make an appearance.

The Cazadero Old Time Christmas Parade will take place on Saturday, Dec. 11 in downtown (yes it does exist) Cazadero complete with 'snow' to frolic in, Santa Claus, a tasty BBQ and who know what else?

The Montgomery Elementary School will have their Winter break from Dec. 17 to Jan. 3.

For information regarding Christmas services at the Cazadero Community Church, please call Linda at (707) 632-5577. St. Colman’s church will have an 11:30 a.m. service. Google for their website and info re their Holiday See's candy sale-yum!

On Saturday, Dec. 4, the intrepid volunteers of Cazadero's Adopt-A-Road project will once again be out on Caz Hwy from 9 a.m. to noon. Please look for them in their colorful vests. Contact cazcleanups@gmail.com to offer your time.

The GMRS (General Mobile radio Service) radios are available at Cazadero supply and you may join the Wednesday 6:30 p.m. network test. More info available at www.gmrs.org/norcal.

The wonderful Redwood Empire Food bank offers groceries, dairy products and produce each 1st Wednesday adjacent to the Jenner ‘Sea’ Store, ably assisted by the dedicated volunteers from the Jenner Community Club who will load your vehicle. Bring shopping bags if possible.

The monthly meetings of the Cazadero Community Club are currently on hiatus until Tuesday, Feb. 1. You may send dues ($15 for individuals and $25 for family rate) to P.O. Box 3, Cazadero 95421. Donations are always welcome, too.

Please patronize all of the wonderful locally run shops and restaurants. Cazadero Supply features an awesome variety of hardware, garden and household product and vehicular necessities and more! Both the Cazadero and Duncans Mills General Stores have daily groceries, and locally produced meats, seafood, cheeses, wine, body care products and tasty sandwiches and soups. Gold Coast Coffee and bakery is a great place to meet with friends and enjoy a cuppa joe or tea and a delicious freshly baked scone, muffin or pizza on their spacious back patio by the coffee roaster-dogs are welcome too. The Blue Heron offers live music and pub-style food. The Cape Fear Cafe, also in Duncans Mills, serves tasty California/New Orleans cuisine and terrific brunch dishes. Check Raymond's bakery for their popular Friday Pizza and Music Nights.

I wish very happy Sagittarius and Capricorn birthdays to Mike Nicholls in early December, to my 'gal pal' Angie Orr of Monte Rio, who will turn 90 on Dec. 30, longtime friend Peter Perlman, also of Monte Rio, will have his day on Jan. 1, followed by Curtis Ross and son Meshack Sabbah-Ross, and my dear husband Gregorio Pehrson enjoys his natal day on Jan. 6-Day of the 3 Kings (Dia de Los Tres Reyes)!!

Don't forget to take time out to hit the beach or recently reopened Armstrong Redwoods. Stare at the waves (I do), smell the trees and exhale slowly!

I wish you all a peaceful holiday season and an amazing healthy, happy and prosperous New Year in 2022.

Please call me at 632 5545 or email mayawrld@sonic.net with info for your Cazadero Column!
