Counting our blessings in Geyserville

Don’t forget to make your vote count!

This month of thankfulness I hope gives us all a moment of pause to count our blessings, even in a year that has been challenging and turbulent for many. With a little rain, the native plants around Geyserville are perking up. Our true “spring” really hits in late January or early February if the clouds have been generous, but a few showoffs may make their presence known a bit earlier along the roadsides.

VOTING IN GEYSERVILLE

SPECIAL NOTICE - GEYSERVILLE FIRE STATION IS NOT YOUR IN-PERSON ELECTION POLLING PLACE

Due to COVID social distancing requirements, the Northern Sonoma County Fire Protection building also known as the Geyserville Fire Department WILL NOT BE YOUR PHYSICAL POLLING PLACE for the Tuesday, November 3rd Presidential Election. There IS an official drop box for ballots at the Geyserville Fire Department, but if you intend to mark your ballot in person at a voting booth in what used to be the usual way, you must go to the Alexander Valley Hall at the address below.

Alexander Valley Hall
5512 Highway 128
Geyserville, CA 95441

To allow for social distancing, the polling place will be open for four consecutive days, October 31st-November 3rd. The Sonoma County Registrar of Voters website states that “In-person voting locations will be open from 9am to 5pm Saturday, October 31st, Sunday, November 1st and Monday, November 2nd, and will be open from 7am to 8pm on Tuesday, November 3rd (Election Day). Unlike previous elections, voters are not assigned to one location, and can vote at any in-person location. The voter will receive a ballot for their individual precinct.” For more information, or to verify the above, visit the County of Sonoma Registrar of Voters webpage at https://sonomacounty.ca.gov/CRA/Registrar-of-Voters/Elections/11-03-2020/Locations/.

Driving Directions to Alexander Valley Hall (see interactive map below) - From downtown Geyserville, go East on 128, over the bridge, following the curve right just after Oriental (Grange) Hall. Continue on 128, turning right and following the “Calistoga” sign. Just after a small vineyard, the Alexander Valley Hall will be on your left set back from the road. There is normally plenty of parking in their large lot but be aware traffic may be congested in this area and you may have to park along the road during voting. People from a large area of Sonoma County will be using this location, so please be careful along the roads and vote early!

VIRTUAL GEYSERVILLE

With in-person events so limited, you may have to go on-line to appreciate our wine country. Here is a selection of some of Geyserville’s delights you can watch from the comforts of your own home.

Don Clausen Fish Hatchery at Lake Sonoma from Anglers Lifestyle:

More than you thought you ever needed to know about the breeding of our local legend, the Steelhead Trout.

Geyserville: History in the Ground -

From Ridge Vineyards, an artful black-and-white look at grape growing in the Geyserville area and a little bit about our special terroir. My favorite quote? “Geyserville can age beautifully”. May that be true for the residents as well as the wines.

SAD NEWS ON A CHERISHED EVENT

It’s official - the Geyserville Tree Lighting and Tractor Parade is cancelled. Here’s hoping for next year -! It is always, in normal times, held on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
