Summer Days in Cazadero

Jul 30, 2017
by Natasha Pehrson

Very blue skies and warm temperatures continue here in the mighty redwoods. Outside of my airy cyber hut barely a leaf flutters.

The Cazadero Community Club is currently focusing on their biggest fund-raising event, the fabulous Old Time BBQ, to be held on Sunday, September 3rd, from 12-5 p.m. at the Cazadero Performing Arts Camp. Many volunteers are needed to present this quintessential Cazadero celebration, which was begun in 1979 and has always featured the participation of the Cazadero Volunteer Fire Department and the Community Club. Expect a great NY steak and chicken BBQ, with all the fixins’, dedicated ‘Chinese Auction’ with many fabulous locally-donated prizes, Bingo, horseshoes, children’s games and beer and wine sold by the Cazadero Volunteer Fire Department. Great pie baking contest and more! Please contact Susan Moll at 632-6902 to enter! Last BBQ there were 30 pies entered! Luscious desserts, including most contest pies, will be offered by the Cazadero Community Church. You may buy pre-event tickets(requested) at the Cazadero and Duncans Mills general stores. Join the Caz Club in planning wonderful events which benefit the entire community. The next Club Meeting will be on Tuesday, August 1st-7 p.m. at Firehall #1.

As we all know, our roads are in disrepair ( I call them ‘wavy’) and the County tells us that help is on the way! Any day now we will have much-needed repairs on Cazdero Hway up to Austin Creek Road.

The Annual Recycle Circus/Rummage etc. sale, sponsored by Sky Garden, will be held on Saturday, August 26th. Please contact Cathy at for reservations.

The 1st day at the Montgomery Elementary School will be on Wednesday, Aug 23rd. Parents may register their children for Transitional Kindergarten and/or Kindergarten now. Please call the school office at 632-5521 to make sure someone would be  there to give them a registration packet.

As you proceed with a variety of summer projects, remember Cazadero Supply’s 15% Discount each 1st Saturday of the month. A large variety of household, garden and vehicular items await you.

Raymond’s Bakery continues Friday night Pizza and music . Come relax in the lovely trees!

Local poet Shashana Kane Proctor presents ‘Come to Know the Poets’ at 3p.m on Sunday, August 27th at Anderson Hall, on Bohemian Hwy in Camp Meeker. Featuring readings, lovely music and delectable munchies. Shashana’s recent book is ‘Cave of the Casting Bones’. Please call her at 632 5761 for reservations and more information.

Do visit the new shop ‘Caz Central’ recently opened by Margie Kramer, which is located next to the Cazadero General Store, for unique locally-made items.

Happy  August birthdays to Andrea Feeney on the 1st, Ben Radtkey on the 5th, with Ted Parmeter celebrating on the 8th, along with Kerry Kelly. Rebecca Chambers and Lena Brown have their day on the 22nd. Ariana Port-Sonenshine enjoys the 23rd along with Ryan Hartnett and Mari Parmeter on the 27th. Michel Orlando-Griggs and Elizabeth Moeckel will celebrate on the 30th.

Dear local poet and good friend Michael Tuggle has passed away and there is a related article and pic elsewhere in theGazette. Thoughts of family and friends are in my heart.
