JULY WAS A SPECTACULAR MONTH IN BODEGA BAY! The Chamber’s Maritime Celebration allowed locals and guests to safely enjoy celebrating our maritime heritage. Although there were no “organized” fireworks, there was plenty of celebration activities around the Bay. It was a good old-fashioned family fun day! Had we lit up the sky with fireworks this year, some joked it would once again be “fogworks” due to the heavy fog that evening. We are already looking for volunteers to help with next year’s events! THE PERFECT BEACH – DORAN REGIONAL PARK – Don’t miss visiting this wonderful beach offering stunning views, RV & Tent camping & the perfect long stroll on the beach where you can see sand dollars, shells, seals and build a sandcastle. Join activities on August 10th at 11 am till noon “Hands” on fun learning about sea stars, hermit crabs, sea anemones & more. August 17th at 7 – 8 pm Beachside Campfire Program. CALTRANS CONTINUES TO REPAIR the road just south of Bay Hill Road where an old redwood culvert (last one on the coast) failed due to the rains back in February. Caltrans agreed to not close any lanes of the road during the day due to the severe impact to the Bodega Bay businesses and residents that occurred over Memorial Weekend. Most of the work has been occurring overnight so all lanes are open!

POKER RUN IN BODEGA BAY – WILL YOU HAVE THE WINNING HAND? Join the Bodega Bay Area Chamber as they host the first annual Poker Run on September 7th & 8th. Register online at www.visitbodegabay.com then stop in at the Sonoma Coast Visitor’s Center to receive the map of participating local businesses and a scorecard on the days of the event. Visit at least 5 businesses, turn in your cards at the Visitor Center to receive your commemorative poker chip and qualify to win. Cost is $25 with proceeds going to help local businesses impacted by the past Memorial Weekend Caltrans lane closure: La Bodeguita Restaurant, High Tides, Left Coast Latte, Eastshore Outfitters, Second Wind, Pacific and Ren Brown Galleries, Roadhouse Coffee, Eclectic Amanda, Coastal Treasures, Ginochio’s Kitchen, Gourmet Au Bay, Spud Point Crab Company and Fishermen’s Cove Restaurant.

WELCOME SHERIFF DEPUTY JASON POSERO – OUR HERO! Bodega Bay’s new Deputy Sheriff, Jason Posero stopped Betai Koffi of San Francisco after an LSD fueled rampage that injured numerous people in Bodega Bay on the 4th of July. Jason was assisted by our local CHP, Bodega Bay Firefighters/paramedics & Bodega Harbor Allied Security Guard, Allen Eckles. Thank you all for your bravery! Bodega Bay anxiously await Jason’s return. We were just getting to know you and so excited to have you here full-time. A welcome party is awaiting!

DETACHMENT APPROVED – LAFCO Commissioners approved the request by Bodega Bay residents to detach from the Palm Drive Health Care District. What does this mean? Millions are still owed to pay off the Hospital’s debts, bankruptcies and lawsuit but the accrual of future debt will cease for Bodega Bay residents. The hospital & emergency room have been closed for months. The facility is now a long-term acute care for profit business and offers drop-in urgent care from 9 am to 9 pm.

After spending most of her career relocating corporate employees around the world, she began two successful family businesses in the coastal town of Bodega Bay, California with her daughter Alicia and her husband Paul. Patty has been coming to Bodega Bay her entire life and moved to the coastal town 12 years ago.

Patty is Vice President of Waves of Compassion Foundation, offering the first food pantry for the coastal community; Director for Bodega Bay CERT, helping Bodega Bay be prepared for a local disaster & Director for Bodega Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, assisting local businesses manage the unique coastal business environment. She began the Bodega Bay Collaborative, a group dedicated to providing information to the residents of Bodega Bay on the opportunities and challenges in their beloved village. Patty currently is serving as an appointee of Supervisor Hopkins on the Sonoma County Tourism Board of Directors. She was recognized by the Sonoma County Tourism Board with the Hospitality of the Year 2018 award for her leadership role during the 2017 Firestorm, as well as by Congressman Mike Thompson and Supervisor, Susan Gorin. She was also the recipient of the 2020 Community Member of the year award from Bodega Bay Fire Protection District. Patty was selected for the North Bay Spirit Award from the Press Democrat.

Patty enjoys hiking the Sonoma Coast, many times leading the hike offering bits of history with the goal that others will love & respect the coast as much as she does.
