Art Workshop of Western Sonoma County Apple Blossom Art Show

The show will feature more than 100 original paintings, drawings and fine art photography. With artworks ranging from rural landscapes to experimental abstracts, there is something for every visitor and family to enjoy. Nearly all the art is for sale, and a section of the show features small artworks at very affordable prices. Visitors will have a chance to win a painting by purchasing a raffle ticket.

This year’s show judge is contemporary representational painter Pam Powell. She paints her world using the traditional skills she has honed and is on the faculty of the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. For more info: pampowell.com.

The judge will give awards in the categories of oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, mixed media and photography as well as Best of Show and a second place Founders Award. Kathy Byrne won Best of Show last year with her painting,Antique Calligraphy Brushes. The Founders Award was won by Bob Hart with his photograph, False Kiva. The public will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite artwork with the piece receiving the most popular votes earning an award for the artist. Visitors’ comments and votes are greatly appreciated by the artists.

The non-profit Art Workshop of Western Sonoma County was founded in 1965 and meets monthly in Sebastopol. There are guest artist demonstrations, figure drawing sessions, critiques by well-known artists, paint-outs and networking opportunities. Meetings are open to the public for a $5 donation. Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month from noon to 3 p.m. at the Sebastopol Veterans Memorial Building.

The artists of AWS range from beginners to professionals and they work in a full spectrum of artistic media. The mix of old and new members contributes to the organization’s longevity and freshness, along with the support, fellowship and activities it provides both novice and seasoned artists. The group is currently accepting new members and membership information will be available at the show. Come enjoy the artwork, the camaraderie and vote for your favorite piece of art.
