Archives Crawl - Discover Sonoma County History

Discover Sonoma County’s historic gems and captivating facets of local history at the first-ever

“The Archives Crawl is an engaging and interesting way to educate the community about the importance of archives,” said Sonoma County History & Genealogy Library Manager Katherine Rinehart. “Participants can delve into local history through a variety of exhibits, displays, and activities, from typing a letter on a vintage typewriter at the Petaluma History Room to embarking on a local history quiz and scavenger hunt at the Sonoma County History & Genealogy Library and Archives.”

October is National Archives Month, which provides the inspiration for the inaugural Sonoma County Archives Crawl—a way to celebrate archives and encourage community members to explore and engage with organizations that help preserve and collect archival materials.

Participating institutions include Sonoma County Library's three special collections, the History & Genealogy Library, the Wine Library (139 Piper St, Healdsburg), and the Petaluma History Room (100 Fairgrounds Dr, Petaluma), along with The Blue Wing Inn (131 E Spain St, Sonoma, part of California State Parks), The Sitting Room Community Library (2025 Curtis Drive, Penngrove), West County Museum (261 South Main Street, Sebastopol), Healdsburg Museum & Historical Society (221 Matheson Street, Healdsburg), Cotati Museum and Historical Society (Cotati Historical Society, 201 W Sierra Ave, Cotati), Charles M. Schulz Museum, Museum of Sonoma County, Geyserville Historical Society Museum, Windsor Historical Society, Petaluma Historical Library and Museum, and Northwestern Pacific Railroad Historical Society.

In addition, several groups will host tables that day at the Central Santa Rosa Library Forum Room (211 E Street, Santa Rosa).
