As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread throughout the world, I wanted to share some of the actions SAY is taking to help protect you, our youth, and our staff.

We are closely monitoring guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local health officials in Sonoma County. We continue to rely on their recommendations and expertise to inform our decisions.

Currently, SAY has taken the following precautions:

  • We are increasing the frequency and rigor of cleaning and sanitization in all our facilities, including the SAY Finley Dream Center, Coffee House Teen Shelter, and Tamayo Villag

The Dr. James E Coffee House Teen Shelter is open 24 hours a day, 364 days a year providing a respite for families in crisis and family reunification services for runaway and homeless youth and their families.
  • For the time being, we are suspending our monthly public tours of the Dream Center in an effort to reduce exposure for our youth residents and community members. Stay tuned for an announcement once we resume our normal tour schedule.

  • We have asked staff and youth to wave to people when greeting instead of shaking hands.

  • We have modified our sick time policies to ensure that our staff who might miss work due to illness or to care for sick family members do not suffer loss of income or other benefits. Of course, we request sick employees stay home.

  • In line with the recommendations from both our local public health officer, as well as Governor Newsom, we have made the hard decision to cancel our annual spring fundraiser, SAY Soirée, scheduled for April 4. This is SAY’s largest fundraiser of the year and directly supports our vital services for homeless and vulnerable youth in Sonoma County. In the coming week, we will launch a virtual event where donors can bid on auction packages and make financial gifts. Stay tuned for more information on how to join us!

You and your loved ones are much in my thoughts as our community continues to navigate this evolving situation. Thank you for your steadfast support of the youth and families we serve, especially during these stressful times.
