IceHouse Gallery presents the paintings of Adam Wolpert including the beautiful and wonderful Pond Series, a collection of 70 paintings of one scene in different seasons, different times of day, different lighting, all mesmerizing as you take this journey on the walls of IceHouse Gallery.
In the words of Katy Mamen:
The series is not a new concept in painting—Monet’s haystacks and water lilies—but few painters have taken it as far as Adam Wolpert, who has spent a full year putting brush to canvas in a quiet corner of the pond where he lives in West Sonoma County, California. For many artists, the series is a way of exploring a theme or developing one’s technique. But in Wolpert’s case, a full twelve-month cycle of 70 paintings of the same size, of the same view, is a surprising window into the nature of life itself.
While each individual painting is exquisite, the body of work viewed as a whole is profound. At first glance, the paintings appear to be a series of copies and it’s not until you allow your eyes to settle on one image after another that you step across the threshold into real seeing and are invited into a parallel world in which you are led to notice subtle changes in light and shadow in a way that draws you into another way of seeing. You are pulled into a slower pace of life, invited to shed the layers of rush and chatter and get back to first principles: a direct relationship with Nature.
