Geyserville Grapevine - deTraci Regula - February 2017

Geyserville Grapevine - deTraci Regula - February 2017

Our wet and beautiful winter in Geyserville is not disappointing. I miss the sound of rain now and a day without a rainbow is somehow lacking in color and charm. The infrequent sunny days are treasures when the air is sparkling and feels alive, promising an eventual spring.   I enjoyed seeing a lace of snow streaming down the top of St. Helena the other morning, but I missed the skullcap of snow that briefly adorned our own Geyser Peak – it vanished very quickly. The cold and wet seems to have had little effect on our birds here at Isis Oasis Sanctuary – they seem to be taking it in stride and several species are demonstrating mating behavior, including our Crested African Cranes.

Our potentially mating birds are not the only romantic possibilities in Geyserville this February.  Our local wineries and businesses are marking Valentine’s Day in a variety of ways.  Members of the deLorimier Winery’s Wine Club get to celebrate early with a members-only event on February 4th with their Winter Wine Club Pick-up Party. While the “pick-up” refers to wine club deliveries, the wines and appetizers could inspire some romance.

At Pech Merle’s Tasting Lounge in “downtown” Geyserville, Valentine’s Day starts early on Saturday February 11th with special wines and a unique chocolate dessert. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

Foodie Moment of the Month

I got to experience a new, temporary form of Rustic at Francis Ford Coppola’s winery – they are redoing the floors in the main building and set up “Rustic Bistro” with a more limited menu under a giant clear tent on the western side of the swimming pool. The temporary restaurant offers a more limited selection of the usual choices, with a few entrees and pizzas. But it was the perfect way to enjoy that first sunny day.  The main restaurant will be open again by early February.
