Cazadero Communications - December 2016

Cazadero Communications - December 2016

by Natasha Pehrson

As Autumn marches on I am reminded that Thanksgiving, Christmas and Chanukah  are all coming up. Traditionally considered winter holidays, with many snowy-themed holiday ads; but for those of us in the mild Pacific coastal zone we turn to our greening hillsides for our winter. The large redwoods outside of my cozy cyber-hut are cleansed of dust from current rains and more are due soon. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of water conservation and smarter use of the water that we do have.

The Cazadero Community Club sponsored the recent successful Holiday Craft Fair, which attracted many creative vendors and avid shoppers. My thanks to all of the volunteer helpers, including Susan Moll, Mary-Lou Porta, Bonnie Chase, Randy Urry, Linda Baswell and others. Special thanks to firefighter Brit for helping fold-up the heavy tables! During the recent meeting Club President MaryLou Porta and husband Emilio were honored with a beautiful redwood plaque and huge gift-basket for their 25 years of hard work and dedication to the Cazadero community. Best of luck always to the Portas! The Club meetings are on hiatus until March. You may always join for only $15 Family and $10 Individual memberships. Send to P.O. Box 3, Cazadero, CA 95421.

Other local craft fairs coming up are the Annual event in the old firehouse in downtown Bodega on Friday, November 25h and Saturday the 26th from 10-5. Many of your favorite artisans will make your shopping life easy and you also have a chance to win the gorgeous locally hand-made quilt! Monte Rio’s Holiday Wonderland Crafts Fair will be held at the pleasant Monte Rio Community Center on Saturday and Sunday, December 3rd and 4th, from 10-5 p.m. The Monte Rio School Parents Club will provide tasty snacks and baked goods. The Annual Occidental Community Crafts Fair will once again festively occupy the Occidental Area Y/Community Center building on Bohemian Highway on December 10th and 11th. Featuring many local artisans along with baked goods from Salmon Creek School students and warming gourmet foods create a very pleasant setting for your shopping pleasure. The amazing ‘Bucket Raffle’ offers fabulous prizes from many local businesses and artists.

A dear local man who as an employee of the Santa Rosa Water Authority used his expertise in water manners to help us all. A proud Navy veteran, fabulous singer with the River Choir and other groups – husband, amazing father and grandfather, and uncle of many, we collectively salute Randy Barron, who passed from this life at the too-young age of 60.

Contact Cathy at to volunteer in the lovely Sky Garden. Their surplus produce will continue to be offered free at the Cazadero General Store, recently acquired by Duncans Mills General Store owners and Cazaderans Justine and Darrell. Congrats to them! Both stores will feature daily grocery items, sandwiches (yum!) and local specialties. Contact Raymond’s Bakery for their current hours and Friday Pizza nIghts. Cazadero Supply offers 1st Saturday 15% Discount day to help you with vehicle, garden and household projects.

The Montgomery Elementary School invites you to its annual Winter Show on Wednesday, December 21st at the Firehouse starting at 7pm. The students, teachers, and volunteers work very hard to perfect their presentations.and this will be a festive and fun event not to miss! The day after the Winter Show, Thursday, December 22nd, Santa Claus arrives for a visit. This is always a huge success and the little ones are particularly thrilled to sit on Santa’s lap. The school will be on Winter break from December 23rd through January 6th, with school resuming on January 9th. Holiday Greetings  from students and staff at the MES to all our friends and neighbors and our wishes for a prosperous New Year.

A belated Very Happy birthday to ageless Bob Moll who celebrated on November 23rd. December birthday celebrants include local port and dear friend Mike Tuggle on the 1st, Austin Bardsley on the 2nd, Mike Nicholls and Ken Parmeter share the 3rd, Brittany Kelly on the 6th, Kristie Sheets on the 19th, Daniel Kane on the 25th, Katy King on the 27th, my wonderful Monte Rio friend Angie Orr on the 30th, along with Justin Mosher-Kudy.
