Guerneville Groove - December 2015

Guerneville Groove - December 2015

by Beth Rudometkin

Hello groovy Guerneville! I missed you all last month, as I was in Florida, surviving Hurricane Matthew with my family…all I can say about that is, WOW! Thank you Vesta, for being my “ghost writer” and keeping the groove going.

The election is over and now it is time to look forward to some positiveness…the Holiday Season! Please remember to shop and eat locally, as we have the grooviest stores and restaurants around; why do you think so many people come here ?! Did you see that Big Bottom’s Bisquits are on Oprah’s list of must have’s? We have such a variety of grooviness with Sonoma Nesting Co., Mockingbird Books, Lark Drugs, 5 & 10, King’s Sporting Goods (who just got in a shipment of items for the ladies), Michael’s on Main (just opened/sharing space with Rose’s River Jewels), Chile pies/Commerce Fine Goods (old Bank Building), River Queen is open again, Glass Images, Seconds First, Panache Optical Gallery, Center for Sacred Studies (Earth & Spirit Gift Store), Shake down (fabulous seamstress if you need any altering on those holiday outfits), oh my goodness, the list just goes on and on!!! If you need to ship anything to the grandkids or Mom & Pop, across the miles, don’t forget Justin at Parcel Box Plus!

There are too many restaurants to list, but for those of you who are missing Mexican Food due to La Tapatia closing, go to La Bodeguita! Located behind the 76 Station, next to Koala’s, you will find some of the freshest ingredients used to create their authentic dishes!

Be sure to attend the annual holiday festivities in town: Thursday, Dec 1st is the Merchant Open House and Tree Lighting Ceremony and Saturday, Dec 3rd is our groovy Parade of Lights… I saw a flyer over at the Chamber that referenced GuerneVegas… sounds like a fun theme! For more information and entry forms, you can visit the website. Thank you to the Friends of Stumptown for keeping our town parade traditions alive!

The holidays are also about giving to those less fortunate than us. I wish everyone would have their hearts tugged at year round, but December tends to bring our Community together, when it comes to those in need. So please, bring your warm coats, blankets and clothing to Community First Credit Union, or Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, and place in the Drop Box. Also, don’t forget the Russian River Child Care Services Giving Trees, that will be at WestAmerica Bank and Community First Credit Union! Pick a gingerbread off of the tree for a special child, to wake up with a smile on Christmas Day! Mama’s Toy Drive is going strong already at the Rainbow Cattle Company and remember to donate or volunteer for the Holiday Dinner that will be held at the Vet’s Hall.

Here are the groovy recipients of Give Back Tuesdays for this month: 12/6: World AIDS Day 12/13: Well Trained Horses 12/20: Russian River Alliance 12/27: Russian River Chamber of Commerce.

Remember if you have events you would like posted here, our deadline is the month before by the end of the second week of the month before, so I apologize if I missed some of you! You can always email Vesta the details and she can add to the online version.

Happy Holidays Groovy Guerneville!
