Sonoma County Agencies Pilot “Do It Yourself Energy & Water Savings Toolkits”

Sonoma County Agencies Pilot “Do It Yourself Energy & Water Savings Toolkits”

In conjunction with the Sonoma County Library, the Sonoma County Energy and Sustainability Division, the Sonoma County Water Agency and Sonoma Clean Power are introducing “Do It Yourself” (DIY) Energy and Water Savings Toolkits as part of a pilot program promoting energy and water efficiency.

The toolkits are available for checkout at the Guerneville, Sebastopol, and Central Santa Rosa branches of the Sonoma County Library.

Modeled after another successful program undertaken in Santa Clara County, the DIY Toolkits will enable Sonoma County Library cardholders to check out the kits for up to three (3) weeks. They provide tools and information enabling cardholders to perform home upgrade projects such as weather-stripping windows and doors, monitoring electrical use, determining water leaks, and switching to LED lightbulbs.

“Through this collaborative effort, we are taking action to increase knowledge about home energy and conservation”, said Sonoma County Supervisor Efren Carrillo. “It’s very exciting to see these agencies partnering to deliver the tools that library patrons need to make their homes healthier and more efficient.”

Following the six-month pilot period, the program will be evaluated for effectiveness. If deemed successful, the toolkits will be made available to additional branches of the Sonoma County Library.

“This is a great beginning for the Library in providing environmental education resources to the residents of Sonoma County,” said Sonoma County Library Director, Brett Lear.
