Rio Nido Magic - November 2016

Rio Nido Magic - November 2016

by Elena Chronis

October Chill

Fall came quickly with winter on its heals here in RN. The cold in the air is apparent and many of us are already turning on our heaters, pellet stoves and woodburning fireplaces. Hard to believe Thanksgiving is a mere few weeks away with the holiday season approaching ever so quickly. Yikes, I don’t know if I’m ready just yet.

Friends of Rio Nido Board

There’s been some changes to the Board. The Board consists of:

Marsee Henon, President; Pip Marquez De La Plata, Vice President; Alexandra Goodman, Secretary; Ingrid Emming, Treasurer; Kim Holliday, Communications.

Art Salon Painting Party

The October 16th Art Salon Painting event hosted by the talented Kathryn Henderson was held at the RNR and was exceptionally well attended by all the “Who’s Who” of Rio Nido. Bevery Bird Misner, Patty Bird, Marsee Henon, Kerri Cardelli, Patty Bailey, Cathy Debrito, yours truly (me) and too many others to mention attended this festive event. Learning how to paint and enjoying good food/beverages made this a day to remember. Keep your eyes and ears open for the next Art Salon coming in the following months.

Local Artist Beverly Bird

Art is becoming one of our common themes in our little Community. One RN artist, Beverly Bird is immersed in many of our local art happenings. As a painter whose primary focus is Sonoma Landscapes, she enjoys encouraging artistic expression among our emerging artists. For the past thirteen years she has worked with Patty Roland James to coordinate the annual RN Art Festival, sponsored by the RN Homeowners. In October, she worked with local artists to put on the first Art Salon at the RNR. Participants enjoyed painting a redwood/river landscape while sipping wine an noshing on some tasty appetizers. Guerneville’s First Friday Art Walks find Beverly at Glass Images on Main Street where she shows her paintings. Sister Patty Bird, also an RN artist, shows her pastels at the local art cooperative, the Russian River Art Gallery, also on Main Street in Guerneville. Its hard to believe how much talent we have in our little hamlet. And, we are so lucky to have so much enthusiasm and support for art, noted Beverly. As holidays approach, we have the good fortune to be able to find affordable hand crafted or painted gifts at our doorstep. The painting here reflects one of Beverly’s passions, the beautiful Armstrong Woods.

Rio Nido Pet of the Month

This is Dottie. She is a Treeing Walker Coonhound who was adopted seven months ago. She is originally from Kentucky where there is an issue with hounds that are bred for hunting. Oftentimes, when they dont live up to their owner’s expectations. they are shot, put in high kill shelters, euthanized or simply abandoned. Dottie was one of the lucky ones as she was found in a shelter by Pamela Rosenthal, of Rescue for North Bay Beagles, who saw her and could not believe what a sweet girl was at risk of being put down. Pamela heroically arranged to have her brought to California via a foster home in Minnesota. After her long trek across country, I am happy to report we are lucky too as she is one of the most affectionate dogs we have ever had. She is a tail wagger who loves to play, cuddle and take snoozes with our other two dogs Lily and Olive.
