Cazadero Communications - November 2016

Cazadero Communications - November 2016

by Natasha Pehrson

Peering outside of my cosy cyber-hut, I am very happy to see the stately redwoods outlined in rain! It was exhilarating to see actual water in Austin Creek after a few good downpours.

As we approach Thanksgiving Day and other upcoming holidays, I recommend that you attend the Annual Cazadero Holiday Crafts Fair. This festive event will be held on Saturday, November 12th, from 10-4 p.m. at Firehall #1. Sponsored by the Cazadero Community Club, the Fair will feature a lovely assortment of locally handmade gift items, delicious baked goods and tasty snacks available in the Fair Café. Many local artisans will also be exhibiting at the Bodega Holiday Craft Fair, at the Old Firehall in the friendly hamlet of Bodega. This wonderful event is on November 25th and 26th, which is the Friday/Saturday after Thanksgiving. The Quilt Raffle always attracts many ticket-buyers vying to win the lovely hand-made quilt!

Autumn is in the air at the Montgomery Elementary School as the cooler days arrive in time for November activities. On November 15th, Mr. Sotak’s 3rd and 4th graders will go on a field trip to the California Academy of Science and the Planetarium. Veterans Day is on Friday, Nov 11th and school will be closed. The All School Thanksgiving Feast will happen on Tuesday, November 22nd, when the Parent’s Booster Club sponsors and prepares a scrumptious traditional Thanksgiving meal. The Thanksgiving Holiday break will be from Wednesday, the 23rd to Friday, the 25th. School will resume on Monday, the 28th.

Your ongoing vehicle, yard and household projects are greatly helped by Cazadero Supply’s 1st Saturday 15% Discount Day. Both the Cazadero and Duncans Mills General Store offer daily groceries and many locally grown and produced specialty items. Call Raymond’s Bakery for holiday goodies and enjoy their Friday Pizza and Music Nights. Mr. Trombly’s Tea and Table Shops are two of several Duncans Mills stores operated by Cazaderans, including the very tempting ‘Treats and Toys ‘adjacent to the Duncans Mills Post Office.

The next meeting of the Cazadero Community Club will be on Tuesday, November 1st-7 p.m. at the Cazadero Firehall. Please join your neighbors in planning events which greatly benefit the entire community. On Saturday, November 5th at 5 p.m. also at the Firehall, the Club and the Cazadero Firefighters welcome members and invited guests to the Annual Appreciation Dinner, to be prepared by both groups. A generous donation check from the Cazadero Community Club will be given to the Firefighters to help purchase useful items.

Although I would never tell you who to vote for, I do implore you to cast your vote on or before November 8th! Especially valuable on the local level, your vote helps ensure the orderly transition of office-holders and local and statewide propositions.

I want to thank our dear Gazette publisher Vesta, for her recent charming dinner for us columnists at the lovely Corks Restaurant at Russian River Vineyards in Forestville. Recognizing each other from our column’s photo, we had a terrific opportunity to chat with and imbibe lovely food and wine together! Vesta and Alan were celebrating their 1st Anniversary and it was my birthday! Very groovy for all!

I wish Very Happy November birthdays to Colin Kelly on the 1st, Angela Ferry on the 6th, David Orlando-Griggs celebrates on the 14th, and Jonathan Ritter and Irene Jackson enjoy the 17th. Logan Callister is on the 18th and Emily Sumner has her day on the 25th.

Drive carefully and turn back your clocks on November 6th, along with checking smoke alarm batteries  and enjoy this transition season!
