On the morning of August 23rd, Russian River ambulance and fire crews, as well as crews from Monte Rio, Bodega Bay, CalFire, Sonoma County Sheriff and State Parks responded to a vehicle in the river near Jenner. Tragically, despite extensive rescue efforts by all involved, two children passed away as a result of the incident. Our thoughts are with the family and their loss.

While the incident is still under investigation, we would like to remind all drivers to drive safely and adjust driving habits to account for road conditions.

The next meeting of the Board of Directors is September 14th at 6pm at the fire station. We hope you will consider attending.

Thank you Marion Miller – Founding Graton Firefighter

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to one of our founders, Marion Martin Miller, who passed away this summer. After returning from World War II, Marion and other Graton residents saw the need for local fire protection following some major fires in our community. They used their military experience to establish Graton Fire. What started as a self-service, soda-acid rolling extinguisher is now a fire district with a dedicated group of 25 volunteers with excellent equipment, professional training, and a great station to support us. If not for Miller’s foresight and that of others, we would not be where we are today. Thank you Marion Miller for your service as Assistant Chief and, eventually, Board Director from 1945-1973. Last Alarm-July 17, 2016.
