Neysa Hinton running for a seat on the Sebastopol City Council

I am Neysa Hinton and I am running for a seat on the Sebastopol City Council in the November 8th election.  Although this is a volunteer community position which pays just a small monthly stipend, it is an important job in the City of Sebastopol since it guides what the City of Sebastopol is today and what it will become in the future.

I believe every resident should step up and lend a hand. By working together we can keep the heart and soul of Sebastopol alive and thriving while we retain our small town charm and character.

My priorities are protecting the environment while investing in our infrastructure, and creating affordable housing so our children can remain living where they were raised. I want to encourage alternative forms of transportation including walking, bicycles and scooters like the one I own for quick trips around town. I would like to get involved in bringing back a recycling redemption center to Sebastopol, and a compost facility back to Sonoma County. I enjoy working collaboratively and drawing from a wide variety of ideas.

On my resume I have a long list of volunteer projects that have served the community, including launching the Sebastopol Farmer’s Market and serving as its first Chairperson from 1990-1993. I also Co-Chaired the “Learn to Swim” program at Ives Pool for many years. I grew up in Sebastopol and raised my two children there, both whom attended public school, K through 12.

Professionally, I have been a working mother for most of my career. I’ve held management positions, including 20-plus years in media/broadcasting management. I have expertise in problem solving, working with diverse groups of people, as well as managing complex budgets. Four years ago I embarked on a new career path as an Executive Director for an Assisted Living Facility for the elderly. I have found this to be rewarding and purposeful, since I am able to use the skills I have acquired over many years to help our aging population, who face daily challenges after leaving their homes.

I commit to applying my skills and work ethic to serving Sebastopol. I feel thirty years of in-depth business and volunteer experience, coupled with knowledge about our community, has prepared me to serve as your next City Council representative. I look forward to speaking with you soon.
