Cazadero Communications - September 2016

Cazadero Communications - September 2016

by Natasha Pehrson

The beautiful redwoods outside of my cosy cyber-hut are outlined today in light fog and some blue sky. We must be super vigilant this time of year, as the threat of wildfire is always present. I am very thankful for the fog's moisture! Contributing to the Pole Mountain Lookout, the only privately funded lookout in Sonoma County is a great way to help. Donations may be sent to P.O. Box 568, Monte Rio, Ca.95462-0568. You may also check out this and donate to P.O. Box 12, Cazadero, 95421.

The Montgomery Elementary School has begun its Fall Semester, so please be aware of children  and school buses!

The next meeting of the Cazadero Community Club will be on Tuesday, September 6th-7 p.m. at Firehouse #1. Please attend and help your neighbors plan events which benefit the entire community!

A reminder to all of those who are involved in various projects including the garden, vehicle repairs and general hardware and tool needs-Cazadero Supply's 1st Saturday Discount Day offers 15% off-very helpful.

Raymond's Bakery continues its Friday Pizza Nights, featuring live music-staying open until 9.p.m. You may boogie under the stars and redwoods! Both the Cazadero and Duncan's Mills General Stores offer a good selection of daily groceries and many local specialty items such as farm-raised meats, wine, baked goods, body products and more. Many of the shops in Duncans Mills, such as Treats and Toys, The General Store and Mr. Trombly's Teas and Table stores are operated by Cazadero folk.

The Russian River Jewish Community will hold its Rosh Ha Shana (Jewish New Year) celebration, on Friday, September 30th, from 4:30 p.m.until dark in lovely Armstrong Woods. Wonderful music by Jubilee Klezmer Ensemble, traditional readings and a scrumptious potluck will help to usher in a sweet year for all. Please call 6325545 for more information.

My condolences to the family and friends of longtime Cazadero and Bay area resident, Art Paulin. A basketball coach and terrific writer-he often spoke to me of interesting local historical occurrences. Saludos from me to a great person!

Happy September birthdays to Vanessa Alexander on the 5th, Charlotte Berry on the 6th, Jessica Shepard on the 14th, my good friend and excellent cartoonist Dave Caplan on the 16th, Rose Orlando-Griggs on the 21st, Colin Desmond on the 22nd, Jessica McBain on the 25th and Kaity Berry has her day on the 26th.

Enjoy our beautiful hills and canyons, taking time to savor warm days and cooler nights.! Please call me at 632 5545 or email with info for your Cazadero column.
