Olympic Champion Maya DiRado receives Key to the Santa Rosa

The Mayor of Santa Rosa announced today that on Thursday, August 18, 2016, he proudly presented a certificate of achievement and a Key to the City to Ms. Maya DiRado, the Santa Rosa native who received four medals at the recent Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Ms. DiRado, who graduated in 2010 from Maria Carrillo High School, came back to her roots to celebrate with her former teachers and the students at her alma mater. Mayor John Sawyer was one of several people who proudly honored Ms. DiRado for her achievements.

Ms. DiRado’s accomplishments in swimming have earned her what no other Santa Rosan has been able to do.  She earned two gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal.

Mayor Sawyer made the surprise presentation to Ms. DiRado, and he said, “Ms. DiRado has excelled in her sport, and the proof rests in her four medals.” Mayor Sawyer went on to say, “It’s been 12 years since a Key to the City has been presented to anyone, and I was extremely happy to have been able to present one to Ms. DiRado.”
