Peacetown Summer Concerts Begin

Peacetown Summer Concerts Begin

Strike up the bands. Let love and joy reign. There shall be dancing in the streets as the Peacetown Summer Concert Series opens up on Wednesday evenings from 5:00-8:00pm at Ives Park in Sebastopol. Now in its fifth year these concerts have grown from four in the first year, to six and eight the following years, and now ten shows will begin on June 29th and end August 31st .

The shows are presented by the City of Sebastopol and the Mr. Music Foundation, a local non-profit that has been bringing music to local schools and to the community for over 25 years. Jim Corbett, aka Mr. Music, hatched the idea of music at Ives Park when he saw the success of free music programs in other towns such as Healdsburg and Windsor. With little advertising the first shows in 2012 were a huge success and now 500 folks come out each Wednesday evening to enjoy the free music, dancing and camaraderie in the park. There are plenty of the grey heads, but also an abundance of families with kids and babies all enjoying the happy atmosphere and the community feel of the event.

Lagunitas provides cold beer, local wineries provide fine wine, and Fork Catering and BBQ Smokehouse come out to feed the masses. Mr. Music’s Love Choir sells the soft drinks, snacks and Peacetown T-shirts, which have become a very popular item around town.

There are two bands that play each week with the opening band kicking off at 5:00pm and the headliner playing at 6:30. Folks are encouraged to bring low back chairs and dancing shoes. There is Premium Parking ($5) at the Center for the Arts on S High St.  The Peacetown buckets are passed at half time for folks to make a free will donation or folks can sponsor online at

So come on out and be a “Part of the Heart” and a “Piece of the Peace”.
