Radioland - KBBF 89.1 FM Bilingual Radio - Sonoma County

Celebrate KBBF’s Birthday May 31st!

KBBF, your listener sponsored, community radio station, came on the air for the very first time in 1973, but the Bilingual Broadcasting Foundation (which holds the KBBF broadcast license) was founded two years earlier, in 1971, by Chicano/Latino students from Sonoma State University. That means 45 years of bringing bilingual, public, community, radio to the north county and beyond.  We are looking forward to celebrating the Foundation’s 45th birthday on Tuesday, May 31st. On that day we will have special programming on KBBF and will also be requesting your support for KBBF with a special 24 hour fund drive. Please tune in and lend your financial support KBBF 89.1!

We only ask for your financial support twice a year, so in addition to our special one day birthday fund drive, we have our regular one week fund drive that starts on Sunday May 22nd and ends on Saturday May 28th. We have an anonymous donor who has promised to match 100% of all our donations (up to $50,000!) so we are very excited about the potential for KBBF to raise a significant amount of money during that week. It is not too late for you to support KBBF in May and we will likely not ask you again until December!

KBBF is 100% listener supported, so why not help out and give to a cause well worth listening to? We do not receive any funds from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (at least for now) so your support means a whole lot to us, particularly during our special weeklong matching period. Lots of great thank you gifts will be offered during our fund drive, so be sure to pledge and support the first, bilingual, public, radio station in the country, KBBF Radio 89.1 FM. La Voz de tu Comunidad!

4010 Finley Avenue

Friends, our historic KBBF home on 4010 Finley Avenue has been subject to illegal dumping and trespassing since we had to leave the property back in 2011. We are working with the city of Santa Rosa to ensure that the property is up to code while the KBBF Board and the community decide on the future of 4010 Finley Avenue. Many volunteers came to the property to help us clean up all the trash, paint, mattresses, electrical equipment and detritus that had been illegally dumped there. We are extremely grateful for all the volunteers who helped with this massive clean-up! Mil Gracias to Alan Bloom, David Janda, Francisco Pardo, Lorenzo Oropeza, Alfredo Sanchez, Lilia, Alex, Brother Duke, Edgar Avila, Chris Wroth, Maria Mendoza, Jose Pepe Arreguin,Michaele Morales, Jorge Álvaro, Bernie Hovden, Divina Giron, Divina’s 2 nieces, Santos Molina, Pablo Rivera, Julian Lopez, Mari Lopez, Benjamin Flores, Porfirio Miranda, Rat, Socorro Vásquez, Margarita Rosas, Josué Lopez, Onésimo Gonzalez, and Maria de la Luz Flores. Special thanks to KBBF Board chair, Alicia Sanchez, who spearheaded the entire effort and to the California Conservation Corp North Bay which singlehandedly removed over 250 tires from the property. WOW!
